Vanderbilt is on the old campus. Many Vanderbilt suites have singles off a central living room with fireplace and bathroom so you wouldn't need to bunk your bed if you get one of these. Very nice for a freshman, I would say.

hey now! this is my forte-
Vanderbilt rooms have gorgeous wood paneling and really nice built in drawers in the walls. Of the Vandy suites that I've visited (one of my best friends is in Branford), all double were bunked. Vandy also has awesome, big entryways. Also, if you're in Branford, you have a chance of living in the Vanderbilt Suite.
Vandy was commissioned by the Vanderbilts to draw the rich blue blood boys back the on-campus housing. But in the deal to pay for Vandy, the Vanderbilts built in a clause where any Yalies descended from their bloodline would live in the Vanderbilt Suite. Apparently this suite (right about the Vandy's arch) has a nice plaster ceiling, mahogany panelling, and pretty marble. I also think Cole Porter lived in there. Vandy's by far the classiest frosh housing. It is, after all, home to the snobbiest colleges.

Sounds awesome, thanks alot. So basically if I have a roommate (which I'm assuming I will) I'll have a bunked double. It could be worse... is there no breathing space at all in these bedrooms? Like where do the desks go? (Sorry to inundate you with questions, but you're so damn helpful ;))
I have a lot of clothes... is closet space gona be an issue?

Any verdict on Bingham?

Appreciatively,
DMW

film- in my friend's dorm in Vandy, two of the four desks were out in the common room. that's a lot of space to me. i lived in LDub and all but one of the four desks was out in the common room. We could only fit in a sofa and a chair. my friend in Vandy had a futon, coffee table, bean bag, chair, two fridges, and a set of shelves. Vandy looks like a mansion compared to LDub.
dmw- Bingham's awesome to me. Especially the tower and the "secret" library. The entryway with the rotunda is really nice. The Chaplain's office is in the basement for all you religious Yalies. My friend had a room on the top floor and could see pretty much all of Yale, including Science Hill and part of Prospect Hill. She had a view of East Rock, which was nice. And the finally huge plus- across the street from Starbucks.

Thanks, edm!

Warmly,
DMW

Silliman. :)

filmxoxo ....so are you in the class of 2010? I thought that freshmen only go to either old campus, silliman, or timothy dwight?

Do they also go to branford? Someone explain this :)

Vanderbilt is the Old Campus dorm for Branford frosh.

OK so I'm in JE. How is it/what's it like, where am I staying, and how is that? haha

Am the only one that still hasn't had his NetID package sent to him in the mail? I e-mailed support and got some automated response.

George, call the admissions office -- 203 432 9300 --- they're giving the pins over the phone

GuitarManARS - Check it out - www.jonathanedwardscollege.com

I tried to get my Pin over the phone, they just told me to email the same person in a email I recieved from Yale. So hopefully I will get a response sometime soon.

Okay, mine says Silliman College. Can someone explain how this works? Will I stay IN Silliman College or somewhere else (this whole thing with Vanderbilt being where Old Campus for Brandford students stay is CONFUSING!). So HOW is Silliman? Where will I stay?

apfreak, that's awesome!! You'll be in Swing Space next year, and then three years in a newly-renovated college with a GORGEOUS huge courtyard! Major congrats!!

Yea! ....but what is Swing Space? Is that in Old Campus....(facing freshmen ignorance here...LOL)

I called that number ( 203 432 9300 ) before 4:30 today and I could not get a hold of them. Whenever I pressed "3" to speak to an admissions officer, I got disconnected.

Apfreak-

As a Silliman freshman, since we're being renovated this year, you'll be living in Swing Space. Swing is located on Grove St. right next to Payne Whitney gym. It's newish, so think more like a hotel than your classic res college. You will be in a 4 person suite on either the 2nd or 3rd floor. You will have a kitchenette and a bathroom, both of which you'll be responsible for cleaning yourself (I know, I'm terrified). The bedrooms are a decent size but the common rooms are kind of small. We do have AIR CONDITIONING which is the greatest thing ever during the first month or so of school. Seriously.

Silliman, in my opinion (and that of many others... although they're mainly in Silliman too), is hands down the best college at Yale. Living in your college all 4 years is awesome. (Don't worry- you'll still meet plenty of people on Old Campus from everything else you're involved in). You will connect with a lot of upperclassmen, which is really helpful. Dean Flick is incredible, and Master K is very willing to help out with anything- we have a lot of funding available for different things (although our master doesn't like to pay for alcohol). We are the Tyng Cup CHAMPIONS.

You will get to spend three years in a newly renovated ($100+ million) Silliman College. Silliman is pretty much the perfect location. Close to Science Hill and places like WLH and SSS, where a lot of classes are held.

So... as much as it kind of sucks to not be in silliman this year, Swing Space is pretty decent, and the renovated college is going to be AMAZING.

Swing Space is near Payne Whitney Gym! That's awsome. I want to wake up early and work out there. Is there a gym in swing space (probably not because it is not a res. College). So after next year, I WILL be at Silliman College..meaning that the renovation will last only one more year? It being close to Science hill is cool because I will be majoring in MCDB and Political Science
