i'm in pierson 09 and first off i'd like to say congrats to a fellow piersonite! as for ldub, yes, the rooms are pretty darn small. and despite what edgar says about him having the smallest room in ldub, i'm convinced that my suitemates and i did. we lived on the fourth floor, and the bedrooms were something like 8 feet by 10 feet. this means two bunked beds, two small dressers, a small bookcase, and barely any standing room. in addition, the room was so small that the cloest door could not open more than halfway, so we had to take it off its hinges. the common room was a decent size, but we did not have room for a couch or futon since we had four desks in it. we had two foldup chairs that when unfolded, pretty much took up all floorspace. another downside to the fourth floor is that all the rooms have a wooden ledge under the window rather than a more spacious alcove, which further cramps things.

i admit that when i visited other freshmen's rooms, i kind of wanted to murder all the lucky occupants. however, before you get too scared, let me tell you some good things about ldub and more importantly, about pierson.

ldub is the social hub of old campus. since it has a courtyard with benches. whenever my friends and i would meet for dinner, it was always "5:30 outside l dub," which was perfect for me. also, you're right above the post office, which is also convenient. l dub is one of the closest dorms on old campus to cross campus, science hill, and all your classes. i know people in bingham and vanderbilt who have complained about the extra trek across old campus to reach "civilization" (i.e. us) on the other side.

and pierson is breathtakingly gorgeous. it was renovated three years ago, so you're in for some great living after you make it through l dub. our dining hall is one of the best on campus, and we share a basement with davenport, which includes music practice studios, a game room, an auditorium, and a snack place/tv room. i did not see any pierson suites until the spring of my freshman year, and i was completely blown away by how huge they were. multiple times the size of l dub rooms! you can get a suite of four, five, six, seven, or eleven, and they're all very comfortable. the best part is, unlike in another colleges, there is plenty of space so you won't be annexed junior year.

also note that i'm just talking about the physical features of l dub and pierson. i don't regret my tiny room in l dub one bit because i had the friendliest, nicest roommate and suitemates. our room became somewhat of a long-running joke, and it just gave us an excuse to invade other people's rooms frequently. so in closing, don't stress out about what residential college you're in too much, because coming from someone who had one of the worst suites on old campus, i loved every minute of it!
