Well, in a feeble attempt to divert our minds from the big question, I have decided that we should discuss the residential colleges we hope to be put into if we are admitted.

As for me, either Branford or Calhoun - both are amazing pieces of neo-Gothic architecture (and Calhoun was designed by one of my favorite historical architects). I'm approaching this from a purely architectural standpoint.

Branford!!!! I think...I'm not really that familiar with the stereotypes of the colleges, but I think that Branford is definitely the most beautiful. I stayed in Entryway G this summer!!! Ahhh and at night, it looks magical--like Hogwarts. And the quad is stunning. And Harkness. And the library! Ooooh and the tire! Everything about it is amazing :D

The one I visited was Siliman since that was the one my tour guide was in. Soooo pretty! I'd love to be in that one if I do get in, but it's doubtful since a student who graduated from my high school last year is in Siliman, and they try pretty hard to vary the residential college populations.

First I hope that I get in to Yale. Then I hope I don't end up with one of the colleges with (ugh) modern architecture.

Don't care. As long as I'm at Yale, it's cool. Better than cool, actually. Although I would also prefer not to be in a modern-architecture one...

Any of them except for Morse - bad memories from an ex-boyfriend from Morse and plus it's ****ty inside. You never see your room/suitemates, the lighting is dim, the architecture is awful. The dorm is an eyesore.

Personally, I'd want to be in JE. It has the best funding and the most stuff to do underneath the dorms.

Does everyone here know that there are cool things under the dorms like darkrooms to develop photographs, fast food places, a rock-climbing thing, etc?

I would like Berkeley the best (Closest and prettiest and best food to sciences). But branford was beautiful....let me just say. Oh, and Beth...the creepy tire swing? Good times there. Hahahahaha

nopes, morse is absolutely cool... cos we live in durfee in our first year. plus we never evER complain about how small our rooms are....
je sucks (really) cos you stand a high chance of getting annexed in junior year, and the rooms in je is are super small
berkeley is nice, but the dining hall gets crowded so easily

Morse & Stiles are 30 years newer than the other residential colleges, and therefore don't have as much money for amenities, sad to say. I know this because my daughter lives in Stiles. On the other hand, pretty much everybody gets singles after freshman year, and they're in a very convenient location next to the bookstore, the gym, and the Broadway shopping district. At any rate, unless you are a legacy (in which case you can ask to be or not to be in your parent's college), you have no choice whatsoever in your college assignment. Besides which, regardless of which college you end up in, you will likely be completely bonded with it by Christmas of your freshman year. Finally, even Yale's "bad" dorms are much nicer than most colleges' good dorms. So just relax.

A fun residential college anecdote:
My alum interviewer said that she was originally in Branford, but that she switched out. Apparently, there were a lot of budding nudists in her Branford class ("they were always protesting something, and they'd always protest naked") and she didn't feel like she fit in. She went on to make many clothed friends in Ezra Stiles, and lived happily ever after.

I personally love Saybrook and Branford... but at this point, I just wanna get IN!!! I'll stay in Morse or Stiles and I won't care, just get me in! lol
