Restarting degree in my junior year of university

Im in my third year of university and I have been doing terribly. I never really liked my major but I didn’t have the courage to do anything about it. Now, I’m thinking about dropping out and going to a community college to pursue another degree and become a doctor. Im also planning on transferring out of that community college into a different university. The main reason I want to drop out and go to cc is that my GPA is too low to be a competitive applicant for med school or grad school. Any advice out there?

If you have a low GPA now, going to different colleges will not hide it from a medical school application.

Why not change your major at your current school and work hard to do better from here on out?

Because my gpa is in the 2s and there will be no chance I can get into medical school or any type of graduate program. I was looking into some post baccalaureate pre-medical programs but alot of them have a minimum gpa requirement of 3.0.

  1. Don't "drop out"...that is, just stop going to college. Talk to your adviser/dean of students about a plan.
  2. You don't get to "start over" with your GPA ...med schools want to know you grades from all colleges you have attended.
  3. If you are getting C's in most classes, then are you really med school material?
  4. Med schools generally don't want to accept the pre-requisites (bio, chem, org chem, etc) from Community Colleges.
  5. The only possible way for you to become a doctor is to retake the courses you didn't do well in, get good grades ,and then apply to DO schools (they allow grade replacement).
  6. I would go to the career office and talk to them about other medical careers besides doctor
  7. You can major in anything you want for pre-med as long as you take the med school prereq courses as well
