Restarting university from scratch (prior to first semester ending).

Hello all, I am currently 17 and after having graduated early from highschool I am approaching the end of my first semester. For some reason I’m listed as a Junior and have credit for a bunch of courses I never took through university (I did as pass/fail AP credits) which I feel has actually been a massive hindrance due to making being garbage in later classes have more impact. I mistakenly chose to enter the honors program, which as part of it forced us to take a generic one credit planning course to figure out class schedules for future semester. I am going to be practically failing this course since I omitted plans to continue through the honors program (since I don’t plan to as I’m doing a physics BS, mechanical engineering degree, and mathematics minor and I quite frankly do not have time to waste retaking “honors” versions of courses I have AP credit for while graduating in under 4 years). This will be my only B of the semester and the way I see it, since most of my credits aren’t computed into my GPA it is going to utterly destroy me. Is there some way I can write this year off as a glorified senior year of high school and start from scratch as a freshman with 0 credits and no Bs on my transcript. I am considering just dropping out of school and killing myself if I end up being stuck as a sub 4.0 waste of life after my FIRST SEMESTER. Please tell me there is some way I can just throw out everything and start over. I’ll go to another university if that’s the requirement to have these grades removed from transcript. but I would hate to think that I’ve already ruined all prospects for a successful life before even reaching adulthood.

My apologies for the wording I have never gotten below a 4.0 on any transcript and the prospect of doing so is just too much.

I hope you are joking. If you are seriously suicidal because of a B, you need to get yourself down to the student mental health center asap and talk to someone.

If you are just being dramatic, I would say you are showing your immaturity. Life isn’t perfect, you need to learn how to cope when things don’t go to plan. A “bad grade” in a one credit class isn’t going to make one bit of difference in your life, but your inability to cope is going to be your biggest problem. You say you are interested in engineering, are you going to throw in the towel and quit when your first solution isn’t correct?

To answer your question directly, no you can’t pretend this semester never happened and start over somewhere else.

You’re not going to get through “physics BS, mechanical engineering degree, and mathematics minor” with a 4.0 anyway. Better to get over that self-destructive mindset now.

Thank you both for your answers. I will concede that my wording was very rash, I would like to attempt to defend myself slightly by commenting that I do suffer from a few afflictions which make self control difficult in the face of extreme anger. I in no way meant to be dramatic, as at the time of writing that I was entirely consistent with my own beliefs. That being said now that I’ve had time to chill out and actually look at the impact this has on my GPA, being a loss of 2% of a point I can say that I will be ok. My standards for myself have just been set quite high and losing points to such a mundane class for trivial reasons was very irksome. I would concur with the statement that attempting to bring mental stability under control is one of the biggest challenges I have to deal with. Thank you once again for your replies.

I’d suggest that you seek out counseling at your school to get help with your self-control, your need for perfection etc. It is better to tackle these issues with the help of a professionals before they become insurmountable problems.
