Restaurant near CMU

Sorry for asking what seems like a trival question, but is there a Chipotle Restaurant within walking distance of campus? My son loves the food there and wants to attend a schools where there is one near by. Thanks.

LOL. Don’t worry, there’re two chipotles for him:
3615 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 0.9 mi W from CMU
4800 Baum Boulevard, Pittsburgh, PA 0.8 mi NW from CMU

Qdoba is better, so why even worry if Pittsburgh has Chipotle.

The closest Chipotle is right across from a Qdoba. Sometimes when I’m there I imagine that after hours they face off like the Sharks and Jets in a snap battle.

… But yeah, there’s one nearby. That Baum Boulevard one is sketchy as hell though, don’t go there. It’s in the mini-ghetto. Go to the one on Forbes. Much nicer, way better service.

Thanks for response. Racin son likes the vegan/ fat free food at Chipotle.

Oh, fair enough. Best part of Qdoba is the queso sauce. Just be sure he knows Chipotle’s pinto beans are made with bacon. I know a few of my vegetarian friends were pretty disappointed after they learned about that after a year of enjoying them. :(

There’s actually a handful of Indian/Asian restaurants somewhat nearby that should offer some vegan options, so he might want to look into them if he winds up going nearby.

The Chipotle isn’t near enough to be somewhere he can go to for lunch every day. It’s a pretty decent walk away. If you look at Google Maps the most common place for people to eat off campus is Craig St. There’s also a good number of food trucks adjacent to campus that offer vegetarian/vegan options.

^ Thanks Racin, that was very helpful info. We will try to visit CMU in August, but from what you are describing about the distance, this could be a deal killer. By the way, we knew the pinto beans had fat, so we have stuck to black beans, pico de gallo, hot sauce and lettuce in a bowl. It is too bad about the bacon in the pinto beans, because they had always been described to us as vegetarian by the management. I think Hindus, Muslims and some conservative Jews could be upset for religious reasons, with this absence of proper disclosure.

Asian (Desi restaurants) have delicious foods, but unfortunately, not much on the menu for a fat free vegan.

^The chipotle is not that far away. It’s a 15 minute walk. He’ll probably need it to burn off all those calories lol.

All my time estimates for walking to Oakland are probably on the high side. I lived in Donner and Scobell, both dorms on the hill and probably the farthest walk from there. Food trucks were a much easier option at the time. ;)
