spanky’s for sure! best american food i’ve ever had. seriously so good.

thanks for all of your suggestions! I will take a look at each one. If you have a second, could you please tell me a bit about each? I want to cap the visit off on a high note. Thanks!

Vespa - terrific Italian food -really - nice ambiance.

If the weather is nice - Top of the Hill - sit outside enjoy the view on Franklin street. Food is good.

A drink at Top of the Hill is a must… the food isn’t the best, but its a neat place with a great view. The back bar is really cool too. If you want to go upscale, check out some places on west franklin. Elaine’s, Lantern, Mint and Tallulah’s might be the best places in Chapel Hill. The Crunkleton is my favorite bar in town. Pepper’s is the best pizza, IMO. And for any kind of dessert, just go to Sugarland… 'nuff said.

Okay, I realize that wasn’t very specific, but I hope that this gives you some ideas.

ahhhh, let me specify… Elaine’s is a French style place, Lantern is a small pan-asian place that changes its menu based on what is in season, Mint is a fairly upscale indian restaurant and Tallulah’s is turkish. All of them are more pricey than most places and you should probably get a a reservation.

oh, and if you want southern food, go to the aforementioned Mama Dips off Rosemary street or Crook’s Corner at the end of Franklin… Crook’s Corner is famous for inventing shrimp and grits.

Spanky’s… Great American food (burgers, etc). The guacamole burger is AMAZING. And hit up The Yogurt Pump for dessert. The place itself is pretty dumpy, but it’s the most delicious (and cheapest) frozen yogurt ever!

yeah Spanky’s guacamole burger is pretty well renowned. I actually substituted the burger for chicken breast, and it was one of the best sandwiches i’ve ever had. their fries are also very good. my mom had a fried green tomato panini and it was different but flavorful too. they have a lot of choices and i’m sure they are all very good.

Acme has a great brunch - everything we have had there has been good. Eggs with Fried green tomatoes was one of my favs.

A lot of great suggestions here:

I really like Spanky’s for lunch, great soups and sandwiches and it has lots of UNC sports caricatures on the walls. 411 West for a nicer dinner is a great choice or for something more casual, Mama Dip’s is really good home cooked foods and desserts.

All great suggestions. As far as food goes, 411 West and Crook’s Corner are my favorites. If you’ve never been, Top of the Hill is a cool place to eat, sitting outside over Franklin Street. For something quick and late, **Ski’s and Cosmic Cantina are great.

OP here. Just returned from a great visit. Wanted to thank everyone for all of the great suggestions! I wish we could have stayed long enough to try them all!
