Commencement is tomorrow and speaker is astronaut/alum Michael Hopkins.
<a href=“Astronaut returns home to U of I to give commencement address”>Chicago News - Chicago Tribune - Chicago Tribune;

Just got back from Commencement weekend with a newly minted Aerospace Engineering grad. He’s heading back to grad school in the fall. The weather was, for the most part, spectacular for the first outdoor University-Wide Commencement in half a century at Memorial Stadium. The banter, as each college had a short introduction by their respective deans was great. The Engineering Dean said that he’d like to introduce the graduates of “the number 1 college at the University of Illinois” to the cheers of all the Engineering Grads, immediately followed by the Dean of the College of Education who reminded the Engineering Dean that “Without teachers, their would be no engineers.” The COE Commencement was Sunday evening at Huff Hall south of the armory, and was split into two ceremonies in order to honor each graduate by name as they marched across stage to receive their diploma covers (the diplomas will follow shortly). Great weekend overall, and, yes, the Alma Mater was swamped with a line of 100s of grads and their families waiting to take the ultimate shot of their U of I grad.
