For the optional resume that we can upload, how much detail are you guys putting in describing your activities. Like are you writing a paragraph or just like 1/2 sentences?

No one should write a paragraph EVER in a resume format. Not for college admissions, not for a job afterwards.

A title plus a few words is all that is needed/wanted. Heck, even allowing resume uploads is a concession. The fact is 99.9% of your ECs have likely been seen before. Ultimately it becomes a laundry list. Your rec letters and personal statement are MUCH more important than what appears on your resume.

So in general, is it not worth uploading a resume?

upsilon: that’s my opinion. Your app readers don’t need to know the fine details of your ECs, voluntarism, hobbies, jobs, etc.

I don’t see how it can hurt you. I do have to second above poster in that paragraphs are not needed. Just a title and a name and a few bullet points to briefly describe your duties or what you got out of it would suffice (this applies to real life job hunting as well). People have a lot of resumes to go through – keep it short and sweet but effective and thorough as possible.

I don’t think you need a resume for college admissions. Must high school kids really haven’t done anything all that impressive (even if they believe they did) that can’t fit in to the space allotted in the common app. However, if you do decide to include one, it definitely cannot be over a page.

Where would it be best to upload an abstract/research manuscript for Penn? In the resume upload option or under additional information?
