Resume Length

I have an extracurricular activities resume that slightly goes over one page. Should I shorten it to one page or keep it as is.

ONE page

should include

academics GPA/tests
athletics/stats
ECs
Vol work etc
Awards

Boil it down to MOST important—
trim text
adjust margins etc

The first course of action is to trim text and adjust font and margins, etc as the previous user said.

What activities are we talking about that won’t fit? If these activities are like, a few intramurals you did here and there, then in my opinion it’s not worth going two pages.

Personally, my activity list was an important part of my application because I was involved in so much, and not just BS filler activities. Plus I need my resume to stand out because my grades and SAT scores were only average. So my resume ended up being a page and a half or so. But all the stuff I listed was a necessity.

I got a lot of opinions on the subject from college reps and guidance, and it’s not like you’ll be condemned to eternal hell if you go over one page. Just make sure it’s actually a necessity and not filler stuff, and exhaust your other options first.

One page. If something is obvious, don’t describe it. For instance, if you worked as a cashier, you don’t need to describe what a cashier does. You don’t have to say what National Honor Society is.

DD’s prep school allowed two pages.

One page max, unless your Nobel Prize makes it go to two.

Remember, these folks read thousands of apps. Typically have 10-15 mins to decide. Dont bog them down in unreadable too much or you’ll lose them…
