I plan to join a few clubs etc. this year (my senior year). I want to join them becuase I am interested in them, but will the colleges think I am just trying to pad my application last minute? Especialy since one or two of the clubs I might participate in involve volunteering.

thanks

There’s a good chance they may think so, so make you have plenty of ECs that you joined before senior year and you’ll be great =)

I have a few EC that I am already a part of, yes.

You always have the option of not including them if you already have volunteer hours. Ask your GC for help here. You may even want to call admissions to your target school asking them if you should include it. By stating that you are willing to leave it off, your sincerity it more believable and you are more likely to get a solid answer. Be prepared if you are told, yes it is in your best interest to leave it off.
JMHO

If you have time and it won’t hurt your grades, you should definitely join new clubs and activities that interest you. Keep doing that your whole life!

blueiguana’s advice about whether or how to mention new clubs or activities on your applications is spot on.

Ok! I’ll ook into it!

Although I have an addition question. One of the EC’s i something that you can only participate in as a Senior. Surely I can include that on my application?

Thank you!

If it is clear that it is only available to Srs, and it will add weight, not fluff, then it’s probably fine. Again, I would defer to admissions. Let them know you do not what to give them impression of ‘padding’, it is a Sr only activity, how would they best recommend you handle it. They WANT great applications. It’s not a mystery for only a select few to know. Call and ask.
