Resumed Undergraduate 2010 Applicants

2 Rejections from Brown or from other schools?

I rushed the applicaton process in 2008 (started completing the application on 02/20/2009, actually overnighted the application and financial aid app). There were some amazing recommendations sent on my behalf for this year’s application (the Managing Director from the company I currently work with, a good friend who happens to be one of the top psychiatrist in America and a friend that runs several charities/non profits in Dallas that I’ve worked with), and supplemented the personal statement with a statement that I wrote myself where I kind of compared myself to Superman, got the idea after reading the Vanity Fair articles on Tiger Woods and Finn Caspersen (Who happens to be a Brown Alum) and basically the double lives that they both lived. I think since I had so much time to think about my answers for the personal statement this year, things may possibly work in my favor. My HS Transcript sucks! LOL!!! The reason why I decided to apply to this program is because the admissions were not solely based on academic performance and I have a cousin that graduated from Brown 2 years ago and she can’t stop talking about how amazing her experience was.

I am not counting you out, so don’t count yourself out just yet. I am not sure if you’ve read any of the accepted forums, there were a lot of HS Students that thought they would never be accepted, but were. I will continue to be positive about the app I submitted until I receive news that tells me otherwise.

I received the letter when I got home yesterday afternoon, I had originally been told I am a little younger than the average RUE age. I did bad in high school. My essay reflected on my leaving school, the time I spent away, and my return. I talked about everything I have accomplished in the year I have been back but I guess ultimately getting 2 associate’s in one year isn’t as impressive as I thought…

I went about the essays all wrong. I was as honest and down to earth as possible, and I spoke from my heart, but appearantly Brown, Chicago, and Cornell didn’t like it.

My why Brown may have been the kicker it could have been better prepared. But I put more emphasis into my Yale application since it was my number one and I think that shows. Also, my science prof had something come up and couldn’t write my rec letter until really really late, at which point it was only sent to Yale. As a science major I think that letter from my Chemistry could have tipped the tables.

Your essays sound awesome, and I hope you get in. You put alot of thought and effort into your application.

The same happened with my recommendation letters, two of the people I asked to write letters or complete recommendation forms came to me after the 03/01 deadline to let me know they had not completed either, so I was surprised to receive the email from Eric Hunter requesting an additional recommendation letter, I asked two additional people to submit one and both did, so I ended up with three recommendations. Initially Brown had only received one recommendation letter on my behalf.

I hope you get into Yale, my ex’s nephew graduated from Yale in 2001. I don’t think he has fully taken advantage of the opportunity that he was given other than getting to go on a world tour with the Whiffenpoofs after graduation.

My contingency is Emory. The friend that I mentioned that is a psychiatrist is an Alum of Emory (actually he was here for almost a week because as the outgoing president of the Alumni Board he was asked to hand out the portfolios at Emory’s commencement ceremony yesterday), and has a little pull at Emory, so I’m hoping he will put in a word for me if it comes to that, but I don’t think it will.

Not sure where you’re located, but I will check my PO Box today to see if I’ve received anything from Brown. Again, Good Luck with Yale!!!
