Resumes?

I don't have a gazillion extracurricular activities: just 2 that I really care about. I also volunteered a lot over the summer. Three things on a resume aren't that impressive, and my guidance counselor flat out told me not to write a resume.

Everyone around me seems to be writing up a resume and sending it to their colleges, even if they have to stretch out the truth. Do colleges want a resume? Should I write a resume and upload it onto the Additional Documents portion of the Common Apps? Or should I describe in detail what I did over the summer instead?

Sorry if it seems like I'm bombarding you with questions - this is what college app deadlines do to a senior!

A resume is usually used by students who have specific things they want to highlight that don't seem to fit well on the application. For example, a student who is heavily involved in music might want to expand their information beyond just stating they were in band for 4 years. However, if everything you want to say fits on the application don't try and do a resume that just repeats what is already the there or stretches the truth. I think you should follow the advice of your GC.

haha...I gave my GC my resume, just to help her when she was writing my rec in case she needed to know anything.

Then, she decided to mail it to the Univ. of Chicago for me. I didn't ask her to or anything, she just decided to include it with my transcript. lol. I was just like, "Okay."
