Retail stores and new CDC mask updates

What really annoys me are people who don’t bother to find masks that fit properly so when they talk, their mask constantly falls down.

I attended my daughter’s Back to School Night earlier this week. She goes to a private high school with a mask mandate. All teachers are vaccinated. In one class, a young teacher had a mask that kept falling down as she talked. She was constantly readjusting it but in the 10 mins I was in her classroom, it was horribly distracting. I could not imagine how she teaches all day like that (did find out later she only teaches two classes, so not all day, but she is there all day in an administrative position also). Anyway, when I got home, I made a comment to my daughter and before I could even finish my sentence, she knew exactly what teacher I was talking about. She said this happens every single day and it drives D and her classmates nuts! Thankfully it’s not an academic course so the constant distraction at least isn’t preventing her from learning in one of her tough courses.

The BNP Tennis tournament in Indian Wells is requiring all attendees to have submitted proof of vaccination. Mask wearing may be required in certain areas. And since none of them are vaccinated, no children under 12 will be permitted in, no exceptions.

As to stores, has anyone else noticed that the shelves are looking more and more empty? BB & B was using pillows and curtains to hide vast swaths of emptiness in the store.

I noticed months ago that BB & B was not replacing inventory when they sold out of things. I wondered if they were going out of business and just haven’t announced it.

Stores are very bare and some stores have close their physical stores, but they are doing a lot of online business. I know I am ordering most of my stuff online. When I am online I see a lot of inventories, but when I go to their stores they are very bare and empty.

I have been in a few chains lately - BB&B, Kohls, Target, and agree that they seem very understocked.

It’s become that I go into retail stores to return things I ordered online and didn’t work. I’ve definitely changed how I shop. As have many people.

Going to my first concert tonight with a large crowd. We are seeing Maroon 5 at a large outdoor venue. We have to show our vaccine cards (or proof of negative Covid test). Tickets must be downloaded on the phone and I can only bring a purse that is 4 1/2 by 6 1/2 inches or less. D2 loaned me an adorable Coach clutch with a chain that will match my cute boots I’m wearing. So looking forward to doing something we used to just take for granted!

I think the stores just can’t get the inventory to replenish. The shipping containers can’t get docked, and when they do there are no trucks to get the stuff across the country.

Tonight there were no grapes at the grocery store!

Last week when I went to our local grocery store (which is part of a large chain) there were no berries, no cilantro, no parsley, no chicken breasts, and very little milk. It was like locusts had gone through. The toilet paper aisle was starting to empty out too.

I asked about it at checkout, joking, “is there snow in the forecast?” because I’m in a part of the country where people rush the supermarket if it might snow - it was like eighty degrees out that day. They told me they hadn’t gotten their delivery that day or the day before - there weren’t enough drivers at the local distribution center.

Today the store is mostly stocked except for bagels and our preferred brand of peanut butter. The peanut butter has been out of stock for months. The bagels started not being restocked a couple weeks ago. So I guess those supply issues must be further up the chain.

We are going to hear Pentatonix (a cappella group) for their Christmas concert in December. They are requiring proof of vaccination, but I can’t at the moment remember if they are requiring masks. Dallas county currently has a mask mandate, so it should be required, but I’m not seeing fantastic compliance at the moment.

I will have had my booster shot by then, so I’m okay at this time with the risk.

I’ve read that there is currently a bacon shortage and that prices are skyrocketing. I hadn’t noticed as I don’t make it all that often, but I admit to buying a couple of packages and throwing them into the freezer.

We always are well stocked with TP after what happened with early Covid, but since supply chain issues are still ongoing, nothing would surprise me in terms of shortages. I was just notified that dining chairs I ordered in Feb that were projected for August have been delayed until “mid December.” Jeez!

The Governor permits Dallas County to have a mask mandate?

Our first world problem is the long wait for the snowmobile we ordered! We need it to access our cabin for in the winter. It’s been a wish for a long time so it’s hard to wait.

I believe our county took him to court and got a temporary injunction about the mask mandate ban.

It’s gone back and forth a lot, though, so I could be wrong about where it stands at this moment.

Would cross country skiing or snowshoeing be able to reach it?

If the logging road is plowed, we can ski in about a mile to our land, but then we have to snowshoe up a steep, half-mile driveway. If the road is not plowed, it would be about four tough miles plus the driveway. Not really doable. And it’s hard to find out if the road is plowed or not. We’ve gotten stuck in the snow more than once. It’s so remote that it’s not safe.

California law on bacon is changing in Jan and it will be hard, and expensive, to get bacon in California. The new law requires the hogs be farmed in a certain way and most hogs are farmed in Nebraska and the midwest and can’t make the adjustments California requires. So, everyone is worried about bacon and hoarding it now. (not just in California, but everywhere)

I think bacon prices have been on the rise but I guess it’s only going to get worse.

Not just bacon, but pork in general.

The law was passed in 2018, because hogs are poorly treated in cages. There’s always turkey bacon. :grinning:

That’s funny. I was just talking to a woman at the grocery store who was looking for turkey bacon because she’d had it at a restaurant and thought it was really good.
