i Got a 2210 sat (730 cr, 760 m, 720 w, ) should I retake??
Why would you “waste a perfectly good Saturday morning” as my D responded to me once?
What are the score ranges for the schools you are looking into? How much did you study/would you study for a retake? 2210 is a perfectly good score, and I would only advise you to retake if you’re very interested in achieving a super high score (and plan to study accordingly!). Your time may be better spent working on extracurricular activities or writing good essay, it just depends on you.
columbia, duke, princeton, bowdoin, haverford, pomona, ucberkely, ucla, amherst, hamilton, wustl, hopkins, cornell are the schools I’m looking to apply to
2210 is competitive for all of those schools, but raising it could help. I see no reason why not to retake. Generally once you hit the 2300 threshold retaking is pointless.
2210 is under the average at a few of these, very close to the average at others, and above average at the rest.
I think it is good enough to pass muster for the “test score hurdle” at all of them, but it wouldn’t hurt to bump it up a bit… to, say, 2250+.
There is absolutely no reason to retake such a high score; it will not improve your changes.
@guineagirl96 I think that is incorrect. 2210 is within the middle 50% at most of those schools. If the OP doesn’t have any hooks, then aiming for 75 percentile is best.
I agree with @guineagirl96. Holistic schools like those mentioned use scores as an entry point. Once you’ve hit the mark the rest of the info used (ECs, essays, etc) are what moves you.
I hope to hit 2300+ on the retake, mainly to get into or above the 75th percentile for the schools listed
My list is almost exactly yours, and I retook a 2210 (improved by 100 points). I would say aiming for 2300+ is the best, just to be safe.
The only possible (slight, maybe negligible) gain is if CR and M can get over 750. If you think that’s likely and the opportunity costs are low, then no harm in trying.
