retake 2400? DONT LAUGH

Hey guys I got a 2400 on the SAT and was wondering if I should retake it. The reason for this is I only got an 11 on the essay, and as an english major I want to impress upon college that I am a good writer. To do this effectively, I feel I need a 12 on my essay.. does anyone agree with me that I should retake? Please this is a serious question I don't need people to laugh at me.

people aren't going to laugh at you, they're going to call you insane and stupid.

a 11 isnt perfect. I would retake it.

Yes, you should retake.

Retake unless you're stupid.

I don't think you should retake it, there are much better ways to show that you are a good writer.

Much better than wasting time trying to get that 1 extra point on the SAT. ($40 for 1 point doesn't seem like a good deal to me)

Lots of colleges don't even put that much importance on the essay...

No insult intended (seriously), but I think that this is way over the top and that you need to get out more. Do you really think that ANY admissions committee (Ivy League or otherwise) is going to decide whether to admit you based upon whether you get an 11 or a 12 on the essay?

Retake it. An eleven is absolutely atrocious.

do you think u can pull off a 2400 again honestly?

There's practically no difference between an 11 and a 12, because at least one of your readers thought you were at 6 level, so no.....

I am going to answer your question seriously because you requested that. This type of question usually ends up in 50 posts of 'yeah go ahead, you'd be crazy if you didn't', so... A 11 out of 12 is good enough to impress anyone. It doesn't matter what major you want to do, its an excellent score. On top, colleges know that the grading process is not as black and white as well, blackened bubbles on a white sheet. It has many nuances and subtleties because people are grading your essay not a machine. So there is wiggle room there. On top, the SAT Essay is not the most prestigious essay out there, on top of uncertain grading and other factors, its not going to tip the scale into the 'you're accepted' side. You have an excellent opportunity to impress them with an essay and that is your college essay.

You got a 2400/2400 on a test that supposedly measures your math and English skills. Thats impressive to everyone regardless.

dont
make the rest of us normal people feel better

Retake it, that score is absolutely horrid.

retake, its the obvious choice

lol so much for your future

wait? people still major in english?

Go for the 2410. It'll be worth the $40 and 5 hours of your weekend (5 hours that might be spent sleeping and/or with friends).

No, don't retake. The reasons? Here they are:

1) You'll be wasting your time. I'm serious. o-o. If I were in the same situation as you and I got a 2400, I'd be jumping around with happiness and not even THINK about taking it again, even if I wanted to major in English so badly. Like amb3r said, there is really no difference between an 11 and 12. Besides, what if you take it and not get the 2400 again? Then what? A score decrease would look terribly worse on your application than a -1 decrease on your essay grade. Don't you dare. Not all people are lucky like you. :)

2) Although you didn't get the essay score you desired, you still have a chance to impress those admission representatives. How? Your application essay of course! Just write an awesome, out of this world, college essay, and you should be fine.

3) There are many more productive things in life you could do, now that you're done with the SAT. I hope, in two days time (I'm getting my Nov. Scores on Tuesday), I become free like you and get rid of the SAT for good. (C'mon 2300+ <3). Realize how lucky you are RIGHT NOW, then how lucky you WERE if you were to take the SAT again and not achieve that 2400.

I hope I've helped. :) Good luck!

Admissions Counselor: Let's look at this student's SAT...oh a nice 2400...and he wants to major in English...gets accepted stamp ready...wait a minute...he got an 11 on a super subjective essay graded by most likely unqualified essay readers...if only he had a 12 on the essay...stamps DENIED

retake.... aim for that impossible 2450 ;)
