I got a 770 on physics, and I was wondering if I should retake it or not? My argument for not retaking it is that the difference between a 770 and a 800 is like 3 problems, HOWEVER if i were to get a 800, because of the curve I can get like 12 wrong.

College Admissions can see my 770 and see that i got like 14 wrong, but if i managed to do slightly better and get a 800, they wouldnt know if i got 12 wrong or 0 wrong.

Yeah, I’m with daretorun. If you really think 300pts will make a huuuuuge difference in your application, or if you really want that 800 for a personal goal or something, go for it! More power to you, more money for Collegeboard!

I totally see your argument, corruptflame, and even considered retaking a 790. But at the end of the day, you have to realize that this score alone will never be the difference between an admit and reject. So I wouldn’t retake it unless you play to major in physics or engineering. If that is the case, you should try to get a 800.

rather focus on writing your essays now, because they are more likely to make a difference in the making of an admissions decision than a 30 point difference on an SAT subject test.

thanks for the response guys, i just retook it today and am confident towards a 800 this time. i think its more personal satisfaction than actual help towards college admissions because physics is my fave subject :)

Don’t retake. Your score is already excellent for physics. Besides, if you were to retake, you would have to spend time prepare, pay that extra fee, and most importantly, you could get a LOWER score which will reflect negatively.
