Retake my SAT or just send in ACT?

I am applying to schools such as Stanford, Harvard, and Cornell. I am trying to decide whether or not to retake my SAT, but that depends on a few factors:
-Is it better to use both tests when applying?
-If I already reported my scores for both tests, will those score reports be used when considering my application?
-If my ACT score is pretty good, will my SAT score still be detrimental?

Here are my stats:
SAT: 2170
Crit. Read: 680
Math: 720
Writing: 770

ACT: 34
Reading: 30
Math: 35
Writing: 33
Science: 36

*Thanks for the honesty... I wouldn't mind tips for applying. I plan on studying pre-med or biology. (I'm also half black, half Puerto Rican... minority status?)

Nice scores! I get a better feeling with your ACT scores, but if you’re not afraid of spending money go ahead and retake the SAT. The racial status is also a plus :)

You have a higher critical reading score than me. Good work, you! Your ACT score is competitive, but it wouldn’t hurt to retake the SAT. As for tips, make sure to write a stellar essay. Adcoms see the same cliche essays over and over again so anything that makes you remotely stand out will benefit you.

I would recommend taking the SAT II, and stick with the 34 ACT. Most colleges like to see some SAT II preferably an 800 on Math II. Its not very hard if you’ve taken calculus (your URM status might put you over the edge for Cornell).

Also that ACT is about average for stanford and harvard so you should really worry about standardized tests at this point because after 34 they don’t really care [much].

Thanks so much for the help y’all! So… If my essays are stellar (and I have planned some obscure, non-cliche laden topics) I will actually have a chance at the top schools? I am just so nervous…

I also did take the SAT II… I was quite tired that day, but here are my scores:
Chem: 710
Math II: 740 ):
Spanish: 760 (I was surprised by this…)

^ Was this a good or bad surprise?

haha good considering I hadn’t taken Spanish in a year… I should be speaking it at home more, but my family is lazy :)

I wish I could take a language SAT II. I fail at both French and Chinese. :(

Firefox, je aussi!!! Mon francais est trop mal! (I don’t really even know what I said there - but yeah, I suck at French too :)). Although, I speak pretty fluent spanish :D

You’re scores are great! But, if you’re looking at Harvard and Stanford…although your ACT score is really good (it’s about average for both of the schools) if you want to have a better chance, maybe you should retake it. You already did really good, but you can probably raise it to a 35 or a 36. At this point, raising your ACT 2 points would be easier then raising your SAT 200 points…

C’est la vie!

Ni hao. Je ne parle pas francais. :(

Wow…was that a mix of chinese and french there? :D

^ Indeed it was.

haha ok…thanks(:
