Retake or Not?

I took the October SAT and was really pleased with my score. I got a 2320 with an 800 in math and reading and a 720 in writing with an 8 on the section. Originally, and I still sort of am, I was really happy with my score. However, after going through all the college pamphlets and notes, I realized that for some schools, I was still 50+ points away from the 75th percentile. Furthermore, the SAT class and tutor both told me to retake as most of the colleges I will be applying to will superscore. I know I can definitely get a higher score in writing because the second I opened up the essay prompt, I knew that I was going to do bad as it was one of the few prompts that I was uncomfortable with after taking some 30 practice tests (I got an 8 on the essay). I am junior so I have plenty of time. What are your thoughts?

your score is great in my opinion but people usually take it at least twice so why not retake? but just letting you know, having an initial high score will bump up your overall score less than someone who had an initial “low” score. Good luck!

If you were my kid, I would definitely tell you not to do it. In my opinion, you have a perfect score: 1600. Critical reading and math are the two scores that matter most to colleges. I think you are a stronger candidate with taking the SAT only once(one and done) - Colleges will love that! And now you can put standardized testing behind you and focus on your EC’s. My kid was in a similar situation and she chose not to retake it. She was admitted to highly selective schools. Very impressive score - Well done!

Don’t do it. 1600 M+CR is outstanding.

If you really realllllyyyy want to go to those schools who are asking for those extra 50 points, then you should go ahead and take the test again. If that school is your dream or id you think i would be great for career, you should take the test again, However, if you are only inclined towards taking the test again because you want to prove a point then this is baseless. Actually it all depends on what you want.

Don’t retake it. 2300+ is always flawless. there isn’t much difference between 2380 and 2320 because its all a matter of a mere 1 or 2 questions. Colleges will realize that.
