I've been thinking about my November SAT score ever since I read it yesterday morning.

790 CR
690 M
800 W (78 MC, 10E)
Composite: 2280

And I'm considering whether I should take the SAT again in January. This was my first time taking it, and I am incredibly disappointed in my math score (which is ironic, seeing as my scores defy the Asian stereotype...). The only reason why I would retake the test would be to raise my superscore. However, my top college doesn't superscore for the SAT. Some of the other schools on my list do.

Should I retake the SAT?

Also, I'm taking the ACT in December for certain, if that has any weight on your advice.

You’re a junior right? I would study for a few months for math and then take it again when you’re confident you can get a 740+

Also, are you planning on majoring in something related to math/science?

Wow your score looks awesome. If you have time, then prep for your math and get 700+. Even without it, your score looks perfect to me.

Yes, I’m a junior. And no, I plan on double majoring in Political Science/History, then heading off to law school.

And thanks for the responses. (: I might put off the retake until June, so as to not interfere with AP tests.

Still looking for more responses! It’s nice to have a lot of opinions.

Unless you’re applying to like Caltech math department or something like that, I honestly think your score is fine. Some may disagree, but I don’t see why a 2280 would actually be the reason why your application gets rejected. and yeah i’d love to hear more opinions.

PS- remember the 690 may look “ugly”, but remember the adcoms know it’s actually about 1 question away from a 710 in reality.

whats your top school? Honestly I would retake since your only a junior… its only a saturday morning.

I don’t think it matters since your score is so high. However, since you’re a junior it might be worth trying to get your score above a 700 to be more in line with your other amazing scores. This probably isn’t the answer you’re looking for since it isn’t decisive, but I think there’s no wrong choice here. If you want to put the time into improving your math score, it might be worth it to take it again just since you’re a junior and have so much time left. On the other hand, you got an awesome score so it would be completely reasonable for you to be happy with it and move on to other things.
