Retake SAT?

Hey all!

So I took the School Day SAT back in February and got a 2290. The breakdown was Critical Reading 800, Writing 780, and Math 710.

I have excellent grades, a GPA near the top of my class, some time-consuming extracurriculars. I also got 800 on the World History and 730 on the German Subject Tests, respectively.

Now I know that 2290 is a great score, but I will be applying to numerous highly competitive, top tier schools, i.e. Harvard, University of Chicago, University of Virginia, et cetera. I was wondering - should I retake the SAT later just to boost my math, or does the comparatively low 710 get “cancelled out” by the high Reading and Writing scores? I know the SAT is not the make-or-break factor in the college admissions process, but still, is the math score glaring enough to warrant a retake?

Thanks.

If you’re looking to get into a STEM program such as MIT/ CalTech, then retake it. Otherwise, no.

If you’re not applying to an engineering major, I wouldn’t worry about it.

Thanks for the feedback!
