Retake the ACT?

Hello friends. I took the ACT for the first time last September and got a 33C. I was pretty happy with that except my English subscore was a 29. In Minnesota we were required to take the ACT in April so I studied English from Barron’s guide the weekend before. That test ended up being a 34C with an English subscore of 36! My current super score is a 35. I was wondering if it would be wise to retake the test in September. I think I could get a 36 Super Score for sure with the type of improvement I saw in just a few hours studying. Will it look silly to colleges to retake? What if my composite drops? Is 3 times too many?

For reference, my UW GPA is a 4.0 and my top choice school is UChicago, I don’t know if that changes anything. I mentioned my super score because that’s what UChicago takes into account. I’m looking to throw an app at a few Ivies too, just to see what happens.

If you think 50 bucks for one point is worth it…

No, do not retake it. Chicago superstores ACT/SAT and a 36 won’t give any more admissions boost than a 35 will. Focus now on other parts of your app.

Take the ACT as many times you want. You can permanently Delete any scores you don’t like. If you have the time and energy, you might as well go for a higher score.

There is no need for you to take anymore standardized tests. Work on the other aspects of your application.
Congrats on a great score.
