I just got back my December scores, and I got a 770 on French. I KNOW that I can do better than that (as in possibly getting an 800) and part of me wants to try the SATII in Literature too (I got an 800 on CR). Would you recommend that I retake it in January? I don't want to seem too numbers-driven, but I KNOW that I can do better than that 770, and since I'm applying to top tier colleges (read as: Stanford and Yale), I know that the competition's gonna be fierce and every little thing counts. However, I don't want retaking it to count against me because I seem too anal. Any advice would be appreciated. =]

So far, my SATII scores are:
MathIIC - 800
Chemistry - 800
French - 770

i think by taking that 770 over, it shows that you're caring waay too much about grades/scores. though they may want the best students, i don't think they'd want to have people who are grade-hungry all the time. use the time you would have spent studying for french II studying for the sat II lit exam or something else.

Of course not. The sat II's do not play as big a role as you guys are making it out to be. nobody is going to care between a 770 and 800, especially with a subject like french unless you're majoring in it or something. even then i doubt it will make a difference.

Then what would be the highest score to retake for you people? I have a 710 in writing that I'm not too happy with, but the rest of my SAT was great (800CR, 790M), so IDK whether it is worth it to retake.

The thing is though, that I'm applying to those super-competitive schools like Stanford and Yale, and I don't want to be sitting here in a year saying what if I had retaken that 770. Then again, I don't wanna be sitting here saying what if I hadn't retaken it... =/ My counselor told me to retake it if I felt that I could do amazingly well on it (read as: 800). So yes...? no...?
