retaking a 2270?

I took the October 9 SAT, and my scores are as follows:
800 CR,
680 M (ouch),
790 W, 80 MC and 8 E
total 2270.

I want to retake it because my math score was so low and I think colleges will look upon that adversely; I thought I would do well on math but apparently not. A few of my friends had the same problem, I don't know if this year's math was particularly hard or if there was just a hugely bad curve (I read on CC somewhere that it was about -30 points for each omitted answer).

I want to go up about 100 points; the overall score of 2270 I would be okay with if my math wasn't so terrible..
I figure that I can improve at least 50 points on math if I retake it, and I'm pretty sure my CR and W won't take a nosedive (I don't mind the 8 on the essay because it only lowered my score 10 points, since I got a perfect on the MC).

I figure if I retake it, I'll sign up for either December, January, or March. Does anyone know which of those is the best month or does it not matter?

Any thoughts, suggestions, etc.?

Also, AP testing is in May so I won’t be able to study much for the SAT as it gets close to then.

buuuuumppppp

I take it you’re a junior?

I’d say go for it if you know you can improve math (the easiest section to get 800).

Yes, retake it to improve that math score. Your other two scores are extremely solid. It shouldn’t matter too much which month you take it in though. The curve will be different depending on the difficulty of the test compared to previous tests but it won’t be tremendously different.

Thanks guys. Here’s to hoping that I do well!

I agree: retake to improve the Math score.

I’m going to hijack this thread since I’m in a similar situation. I also have a 2270 but my scores are somewhat more balanced.

Math: 800
Cr: 770
Writing:700
68 MC Essay 10

I mean, I could get the writing up at least 30 points; I’ve already brought it up 50 points compared to my first time. But I feel like writing is a trivial part of the SATs and anything 700+ is good enough. I can’t guarantee doing as well on CR the next time either.
