Hi,

I'm a junior who recently took the SAT on March 2013 for the first time.
I scored a 2270. Overall, I probably would not retake this test again. However, it's the score breakdown that I'm worried about.

CR:800
Math:690
Writing:780

Should I retake the SAT to improve my math score?
Will this SAT score (with 690 math) have a negative effect on my application to admissions officers of Ivy league schools?

Thanks!

At first I was going to say “no what are you doing with you life” but I actually see your point about the break down.
I would retake just because you’re statistically bound to do better, and a lot of colleges superscore.

My first SAT I scored a 2120 overall - not bad until you looked at the break down with 660s for both CR and Math, though 800 for Writing.

Second time (after the summer and a 40 min math prep session with a friend) reading went up to an 800 and math to a 770… Definitely worth it.

If this is your first attempt, I would suggest to retake it. Particularly if this score is a bit off from your expectation based on practice scores. Fortunately, Math would be something relatively easier to improve over a short period of time. If this is your second or third attempt already, then you may consider taking Sat2 Math instead.

There’s no harm in retaking. Most people take it twice anyway. The math score could easily be brought up to above 700. Give it a shot!

Thanks so much everyone!

Anyone else have advice as well?
In particular, if someone who currently attends an Ivy or other highly selective school could give me personal stories/advice, that would be much appreciate!
