I am a journalism major at a cc and I have a 3.77 GPA currently. I am going to get a B in sociology and along with all my other courses, it is going to put my GPA at a 3.79. I have been wanting to keep my GPA as high as possible, for this reason, I was considering failing the course and retaking it for an A. I don’t know if it looks better to take the B or to fail it and retake it for a better grade. If I do retake it and get an A, my GPA would be at 3.93. I am planning on applying to UCLA, Cal and USC. Can someone please help me.
Also, will retaking the course affect me later on down the road when I try to apply for Law school?
I can’t comment for law school, but I do know that USC doesn’t seem to accept “grade forgiveness”. In their case, they would calculate the bad grade and the higher grade into your GPA. I suppose it’s too late to withdraw from the class? The UC’s don’t seem to mind W’s all that much, so I would actually take the W if it’s still possible. I’d rather have that than a failing grade.
