How many times can I retake the ACT without looking “bad” to colleges? I received my third retake score and got the same score as last time (29). Is it worth taking one more time? I’m trying very hard to get above 30.
I am applying to schools like BU, UC Irvine, and Northeastern (reach)
There are conflicting views on this, but @marvin100 is very knowledgable and says it doesn’t matter to colleges how many times you take it. Can you afford it? Are you going to sacrifice something important to take it again? (Time working on essays, study time for regular classes, etc…) My thought is that after three attempts, you might have maxed out, but it’s really up to you. I personally think you run the risk of getting a lower score, and that a lower score with four attempts doesn’t look great. But if the college superscores, that is not an issue.
I would retake it. If you’re trying very hard, you can definitely make it happen.
