Retaking AP Classes in College Hurting Transfer Chances?

I am a freshman student at Appalachian State and I am looking to transfer to UNC Chapel Hill or NC State next year. I was wondering if retaking AP classes in college hurts transfer chances? I took AP Biology and AP Chemistry in high school and I recieved 3s on the exams and a C in the class. I got my act together in college and realized I could never make it to Med School if I do not change my ways. This semester I have a 3.81 GPA and I had Chem 101 (A), Bio 101 (A), Calc 1 (B+), Seminar (A). I was wondering if since my last semester classes are almost entirely classes I have already taken in high school if my chances of getting accepted would be affected? I have a 1920 SAT and a 3.7 Weighted HS GPA and 2.87 Unweighted HS GPA.

Wait so let me get this straight. You passed AP tests, but did you report your scores or not? Anyway, I don’t think it will hurt your chances. I mean it’s kinda like retaking a course at a community college or something. I think you should be fine. After all, UNC/State will not see your AP scores if you don’t report them, and you aren’t obligated to. Your A’s at a state university will look much better than 3’s on HS AP tests.

Students often retake AP level coursework in college, especially Chem, and especially if they didn’t do that well in the AP class. It was smart of you to retake the same level in college as you will want a solid foundation for the rest of your premed coursework. I don’t see it as being a problem with transferring.

It’s no problem. Sometimes AP work does not always offer the credit for a full college course. I passed AP US History but decided to take United States History to 1865 because my AP credit did not exempt me for a major prereq. It happens all the time.

And I aced that History class with my eyes closed, practically asleep. LOL

I retook those classes because a 3 was not good enough to place out at Appalachian. Even if I did score well enough to place out, I would have retaken it to establish a strong foundation in my pre-med course work.
