Retaking Chemistry 2A: Is a D in Lab Enough?

Hello,
So I received a D in chemistry 2a, and am attempting to retake the course in the RO section. I received a 359/459 in my lab section, which is about a 78% with the curve not taken into account. I signed up for the RO section thinking that this was passing. The issue is, when I recalculated with the standard deviation (of the lab section) taken into account my lab grade plummets to a D. Is a D still ‘barely passing’ in this instance? Will I have to drop the course and try to get into a normal section?

I am (foolishly on my part) already signed up for an RO section, so if the lab grade disqualifies me I might have to drop the course. This would be very bad for my major.

Thank you so much for the help!

i thought C- was the cutoff? might be different for labs.

The standard deviation and mean given to you for lab is just for your information. There is no curve for the lab section. The curve is only applied after all grades have been tabulated. As such, 78% is considered passing for the lab portion of the exam and is not subject to a curve. You can take the BRO section and once you’re finished, the lab portion (78%) that you had will be added to your new class’ (midterms/final) scores.

Thank you so much…you have helped me out of a lot of worrying :)
