Returning Students Financial Aid

Have any returning students received their financial aid awards for the coming year yet? We submitted everything by the end of March, but my son's student center still says

2014 Cornell University Inquiry access denied.

He wrote to the financial aid office and was told, "The review of current student applications will be done May through August. You will be notified electronically when your award is available for viewing."

We are trying to arrange our budget, so this delay is quite inconvenient (especially if it really goes into August!)

Is everyone still waiting?

Past 3 years it has always been later July or early August. Unless your student will have a semester abroad, packages are very close to the same each year.

My DH is self-employed, so our package is always less predictable than it would be otherwise.

same thing for my DD -> “2014 Cornell University Inquiry access denied”. Instead on student center try clicking on “Account inquiry” we were able to see DD Pending FA package there.

Last year as a sophomore my D got her package in July.

This year, My D got the same 2014 “account access denied” and then her class schedule said “you are not enrolled in classes” so I panicked. (I hope this is just because they are in between semesters!)

I contacted FA and they said they had everything and it was “ready for review.” Then today she got an e-mail saying the same thing. When she checked the account inquiry it said “no pending financial aid.” Our financial situation is pretty much the same as last year so I am hoping that will more less be the case but I always get so nervous because we really have to budget and my H’s job is always up in the air!

Our FAFSA EFC went up between 1st and 2nd year, and back down this year, so I’m hoping that our aid went back to 1st year level…

Still haven’t gotten mine yet…I got an email on the 15th that my application is ready for review. Should I be worried or wait a bit more before emailing them or calling them?

In my experience, Cornell has always been late with handing out financial aid packages especially if your financial situation is not the ‘standard’ (both parents work, etc). Last year, I didn’t get mine until the start of the semester. You might need to be patient.

But, to give yourself a peace of mind, I think you should call the office.
