There is a a lot to like at Cal Poly Pomona:

Brand new gym/rec center (BRIC) opening Fall 2014. This facility is the newest and largest sports gym at 120,000 sf west of the Mississippi. Looks awesome and is the same and newer than the the popular center at Cal Poly SLO.

Tuition is $6350 for 3 quarters a year vs. $13,500 for 3 quarters at a UC. Yeah, graduating with $28,000+ in debt is a big deal. And vs. $40,000 tuition at USC, USD, and Chapman, come on.

Small classes and professors that take pride in knowing the names of their students. It’s more like grad school in your upper div classes.

Newly rebuilt student center. Nice and has a range of hangout areas and some ok fast food places. New College of Business building went up in 2012.

If you like to hike, swim, and boat, there is a giant county park 3 times the size of campus just north at the San Gabriel foothills, Frank Bonelli Regional Park:

If you are thinking about internships, think about this: If Los Angeles County were a nation, its economy would be the 19th largest in the world at $766B. It is home to more than 245,000 businesses with more minority- and women-owned businesses than any other in the nation. It is the nation’s top international trade and manufacturing center. Los Angeles County’s budget is $24.2 billion. lacounty.gov/wps/portal/… For comparison, San Luis Obispo county has 7,720 non-farm employers (32 times fewer), but to be fair Silicon Valley companies (65,000) do recruit at CP SLO.

Weather, yes it is hot and it can be smoggy, but CPP is at the very eastern edge of the Los Angeles/San Fernando valley, so you see a lot of open space, green, and the mountains. bonellipark.org yelp.com/biz_photos/cal-…

Food: ok the food on campus is not great, but within 2 miles from campus you have In-N-Out, Pieology, and Chipotle. That’ll work, right?

The library is remodeled and pretty swank. How much space do you need to read a textbook?

The dorms for soph and up are new and there are suites with private rooms.

The college town thing is not really going on in Pomona city, but Claremont Village is only 6 miles away and is a pretty cool town to walk around in and get a slice and a brew.

Oh yeah, on the weekends you can head out to Laguna Beach (45 mi), Newport Beach (39 mi), Malibu (63 mi), Westwood (44 mi), Hollywood (35 mi), West LA, Sunset, Beverly Hills (40 mi), Pasadena (27 mi), Palm Springs (78 mi), Palm Desert (84 mi), Joshua Tree (103 mi), and Big Bear (69 mi) for skiing or lake fun. Disneyland and California Adventure are just 22 miles away. San Diego and Tijuana are about 2 hours away.

CPP enters a float in the Tournament of Roses, Rose Bowl Parade and has for 75 years. You can submit your design ideas and win $500 if selected. facebook.com/rosefloat. There is a Strawberry Festival and a Pumpkin Festival also.

There is a working hotel and restaurant on campus that is used to train the hotel and restaurant management majors. kelloggwest.org I don’t think they have one of those at UC Berkeley.

If you are an academic badass you can join the Kellogg Honors Program. Try that at a UC or a Claremont school.

If you are interested in Greek Life, CPP has that too. If you are social, CPP will be social back. Takes love to make love.

Oh yeah, the campus is gorgeous with the rose garden, Japanese garden and wide paths and big quads lined by majestic palm trees - blows away the industrial park/trailer park layout out of Cal Poly SLO.

When you say Cal Poly, put the emphasis on the Pomona so people know that you are talking about Cal Poly in the big city and not the one in the middle of nowhere.
