Review Book Dilemma

I know this question has been asked time and again: what’s the best review book for APUSH? I have done my research and know that Direct Hits, Crash Course, and AMSCO are all good. But last year, I used AP Achiever for Euro without reading the textbook all year and did really well.

No one on CC seems to mention AP Achiever much for APUSH, but I was wondering if I should buy that instead of Direct Hits. AP Achiever is written in conjunction with my textbook and has practice essays/tests, but only has one good review on Amazon. DH is good for both the AP and SAT II, and has sample essays, but no tests. But nearly everyone on CC and Amazon is raving about it.

I don’t want to spend a lot of money, so should I get Achiever or DH?

Direct Hits.

If you want a 600 page, surrogate-textbook, AMSCO or REA would be best. REA comes with 6 tests I believe, while AMSCO has only one.
DH and REA crash course are the right-before-the-test-review books. They are both written by the same guy, but DH is newer. DH doesnt have a single prac test though. AP achiever may have worked for you for Euro, but every book, author, and subject is different. If i were you, i’d go with the certain. I’d be pretty ****ed if i ordered a book and it was missing a lot of important info. While you would be taking a big risk with AP achiever (and may be wasting your $), amsco or rea would be much more helpful.

Thanks guys! Really cleared things up for me! I’m not going to bother with Achiever this year, since that’s true; the author is different, and the style might not be the same. Just out of curiosity, did you use AMSCO or REA?

I’m currently using AMSCO, and it’s actually like really conversational and funny (if a review book can be funny). in one instance it was talking about the development of pennyslvania/philadelphia and how ben franklin set up the library and what not. then a couple pages later the book was saying how the first newspaper was founded. it said “the first newspaper was founded by (you guessed it) Ben Franklin.” i found that very hilarious.

 Very glad to see you’re enjoying it, risubu!
