Prep book for the 2012 apush exam

Ok so I know amsco is like the apush bible, but out of rea crash course and direct hits(for AP/sat2), which is the better one? Explanation would be appreciated

Also which of the two will get me a 5?

DIRECT HITS AP US HISTORY IN A FLASH.

The all caps was that necessary.

Edit: Sorry, missed the explanation part. I used Rea’s other AP US book for the tests in it, the rest of it was useless. I didn’t read their crash course book, but I’ve seen it. Direct Hits is better. It focuses on the important information that’s most likely to come up, which avoids cluttering your mind. I owe my scores to that book.

AMSCO is filled with useless information. DH is the way to go. I learned very little from my APUSH class, so I crammed DH in the week leading up to the AP exam and the Subject Test. 780/5.

Doesn’t REA crash course and DH have the same author?

Yep ^

Sent from my Desire HD using CC App

I have AMSCO, DH, and Crash Course. I can honestly say that Direct Hits is the best out of those. I feel that Crash Course missed too many details and AMSCO provided too many details. Direct Hits transitions well and is great for reviewing. It took me about four hours to go through DH, while it took about an hour less for Crash Course, and I’m still not all the way AMSCO, 7 hours into it.

Yeah, except Crash Course covers less (read: not enough) detail. DH has just enough detail to be used by itself. AMSCO has way too much.

I used REA’s normal APUSH book. It seemed pretty sufficient to me. Although i did not self-study, i did learn some things i did not read in the book as well as refreshed all the important aspects of USH

The normal REA book went way over boar in my opinion. It was more like a textbook instead of a review book. Nevertheless, the MC tests in the book were good practice.

i outlined most of the american pagaent which led me to ~100 pages of notes. then cut them down to about 20 pages of notes through direct hits. got a 780/5

I went with amsco and the crash course, and I believe that amsco is good, but really unnecessary. Direct Hits in my opinion does seem like the better option. Crash course is really helpful for the free responses though.

Well im 300 pages into the pageant and I plan to buy dh and amsco after finishing the pageant for a good review. Im reading the book with diligence so im already ahead. What do you think of this plan?

I stopped reading the pageant after they mentioned something about Polk’s diarrhea… Useless…

Not sure about the books you mentioned; I never used them…but if you want you can use this https://sites.google.com/site/apushstudyguides/home</a>
Also, know that Sparknotes is a good review book

lol WHAT…

I’m thinking of getting 3 books: DH, AMSCO, or REA or REA crash course or Princeton Review. Any thoughts?

Direct hits as the previous page said

How about REA, REA crash course, or Princeton review with those 2???

You don’t need any books if you have all the essay prompts for APUSH from a decade back and all the multiple choice questions from 1984 to 2008 ;).
