Revisits

I do believe I will have to rethink my decision if MX food doesn’t meet the mark (or has a lack of vegetarian options) … Though one solution is to live off of apples all year round

@Atria you’ll have to let @Nico.campbell be your guide…I’m sure he’s up to the task! Full food report due tomorrow!!!

You all are too nice  . I love writing these reviews!!!

@buuzn03 I was anxiously waiting for the end of the day so that I could write the review :)) . I’m just as excited to write them as you are to read them! This site has become sort of an outlet through which to process all of my thoughts about the schools :))

@ChoatieMom I totally agree with you! Everyone has this kind of worldly-sophisticated feel at Choate. I like that, but at the same time I worry if maybe they don’t get to experience being a crazy teenager :-? …

@panpacific Haahah you’ve got me :)) . If MX doesn’t blow it out of the water, Choate will be getting a packet of paperwork from me on A10!!

@doschicos Definitely! and what a fun process it’s been!

@queenmother only one more review to go!! What am I going to do??!

Only one more installment until my anthology is complete!! :))

Remember that you have an especially devoted readership for MX, @Nico.campbell .

Getting ready to head of to MX! Will be sure to fill @Atria and the rest of you all in.

Food details are the priority!! Don’t forget!

Lol @lusitari sent me some photos and I am pretty sure I feel more excited than her

Currently driving to MX… I think I got 4 hours of sleep last night! Not to mention the cold is making my face look like a tomato :-w . Happy April fools everybody

I beg your pardon, April fools is not happy… waking up to find yourself covered in blue paint is not happy …
On the other hand, revenge leads to a righteous sort of feeling … but not happy…
Keep sending us updates @“nico.campbell”

I wonder if there will be any pranks on the poor unsuspecting revisit-ers… Lol A1 might not have been the best day for revisits :))

@“nico.campbell” @lusitari I am at the edge of my seat… How was MX?

This must be his April Fool’s joke @Atria…he’s not gonna tell us!

The highly anticipated final addition of my revisit anthology is finally here!!!

Middlesex was AMAZING. I really did not expect to like it half as much as I did… I’m still a bit shocked! The students were immediately separated from their parents and taken to the library, where they met their host for the day and talked for like 15 minutes. My host was SO nice and didn’t stop talking to me the entire time… it was crazy! We listened to a quick speech from the two student presidents etc etc and I went to my host’s first class: geometry. I wouldn’t say that this class was AMAZING but it was still a great class. @lusitari and I pretty much just mouthed words at one another while our hosts solved problems :)) . Then I headed over ancient Chinese history, which was surprisingly interesting! We all sat around the Harkness table and the teacher led an excersize where the students kind of created their own government. Really interesting! Then we all went to the chapel and listened to a speech from the headmaster, and watched some groups sing. The headmaster gave a great speech, in my opinion! Then my host had a free period so we went to his dorm. THE DORM WAS NICER THAN MY ROOM. His dorm was the newest, and when you enter it it looks more like a hotel than a dorm I swear. Then I met some of his friends and they all talked. They were a bit less warm towards the revisit kids than the kids at Choate, but nevertheless great! Then my host had music class, so he took my to the music center which is pretty much the basement of the library (although they are building a new center!). The music center was pretty much composed of some classrooms, and some small soundproof rooms for kids to practice their instruments in. The music class was a bit ridiculous, but my host had already forewarned me about this :)) . A bunch of awkward teenagers practicing singing (although they are not singers) their vowels together did not make for a great class :)) , but it was entertaining! Finally… it was time for lunch!! Now, I’m not very particular about what I eat, so I was ok with the food. Overall, it seemed good not great. I had pizza and salad, but there was also chicken and some other stuff. It seemed like a smaller selection compared to the other schools, but I didn’t mind much. In summary, 20 minutes later I was in the gym reunited with my parents and hanging out with @lusitari! It’s hard to put into words, but there was something about the teachers and the students as Middlesex that made me really like it! No, the students weren’t the smartest or the coolest or even the most talkative: they just were great people. The teachers seemed to really like their jobs, and I love how Middlesex focuses so much on students’ ability to write well! Although I was a hardcore Choatie (and may still choose to be one on A10), I was very impressed by Middlesex! Thanks Middlesex for making this decision hard for me :((

Just think…good but not great food for FOUR YEARS! What madness!! Lol

Today I had my first revisit on a slushy and soggy day at MX. Driving up to MX, and the days leading up today, I certainly wasn’t very thrilled or enthusiastic about the school. I knew of MX’s high quality education, but I underestimated their programs and the people there.
When we reached the admissions building which was situated around the beautiful snow covered green, I got out of the car alone, and was greeted by a bunch of friendly students under umbrellas. So after practically stumbling out of the car in front of 50+ students, I got escorted by a nice girl to the library to meet my host for the day.
My host and I hit it off right at the bat. We both shared common interests and she answered all my questions with ease. When I asked her if she was accepted to any other schools, she said yes. I asked her what they were and she told me that she chose between Exeter, MX and Andover. Definitely a hard choice (I must choose between Exeter and MX)! We discussed the choice making and I grilled her with more questions and we headed to the first class.
The first class I went to was a math class, and I immediately recognized fellow CC member, @Nico.campbell, and he recognized me. (Pretty cool, huh!)
Classes were taught in a lecture style mainly (exception of harkness in history), but there was definitely plenty of time for student involvement. Many participated in discussions and writing on the board. Teachers gave gentle nudges, but not answers.
Ok, let me second something Nico said: THE DORMS WERE SPACIOUS AND COZY. I mean those dorms were deluxe. My host and I spent time in her room and we talked more about the school and life, and I couldn’t help but marvel at the size of the room and the home-like feel of the dormroom.
At lunchtime, the food was described as “so, so” and the buffet they had spread out was mediocre. My host noted to me that she often ordered out, and I agreed that that’d be a nice alternative some days.
After lunch, there was quite a bit of time for interaction with other students, and the ones I met were very friendly. They seemed engaged and kind, and as Nico and I noted, high-schoolerish. High-schoolerish in a sense that some did quite a bit of slouching, some talk of who did what with who etc. I’m saying all of this not a negative way-- it was just something I noted.
Slushy yet surprising was how I would describe today. MX impressed me with their strong writing and academic programs, and the people were pretty awesome (pretty smart, friendly and inquisitive). I was also glad to have met up with Nico. We talked for quite a while (like we were long lost friends) after my host left, and we walked around campus taking pictures for @Atria.
Now for Exeter this upcoming Monday, will it still remain my favorite as it has always been, or…? Time will tell, and my thoughts will continue to swirl.

I want to note one more thing: the sense of community. I was worried because I typically like larger schools, but again, I was surprised! The school seemed to have the perfect amount of kids: not enough students to lack in individual attention and get lost in the system, yet too many students for anybody to feel constricted to one groups of friends! It was a really great balance in my opinion. Every students seemed to really like one another, and the classes are still small enough that everyone can know everyone!

@buuzn03 I truly wish that I had thought of that idea as an April Fool’s prank before beginning to write it… you win this time ~O)

It’s so cool you met IRL @Nico.campbell and @lusitari !

@gardenstategal totally!! It was really fun. We spent a lot of the time being out in the snow and taking photos for @Atria!!! B-)

@buuzn03 Out of curiosity… do you have a French Bulldog, or a Boston Terrier?? Your profile pic looks like a bulldog and I have one myself! Although Boston Terriers can look a lot like frenchies :-?
