^^^St. George’s will be “tempting” no matter what. Good Luck! My nephew went to SGS, and my daughter was admitted, but couldn’t attend revisit her year (due to being in the hospital), and they wouldn’t allow her additional time to revisit before decision time.
@preppedparent - We laugh about the fact that if GMCkid2 goes to SG, and GMCkid1 is already at Cate, our bias for “strong visual settings” will be exposed!
DD is revisiting Milton tomorrow. Supposed to be a mess of snow and rain. I’m sure that isn’t what the AOs were hoping for.
^^Milton is great. Love the diversity there. You just have to look past some of the tired buildings. It isn’t a manicured place where you see right away where your money is going! Still, my daughter loved it. Good Luck!
Wow… Milton is actually really nice. Currently waiting for the introduction speech to start. Apparently the acceptance rate this year was 14%??? I thought that it was far higher.
Have you seen the row of cars though pulling up for drop off after drop off after drop off? It is hugely a day school enterprise.
We loved Milton, have fun @“Nico.campbell”!
^^given the lower school as well.
@Nico.campbell my cousin went there years ago and loved it! Have fun
So I’m currently on the car ride back from Milton… here’s my opinion: Milton was very different from the other schools that I visited. It’s really difficult to explain, but it felt way more like an actual high school than anywhere else (not that I like or dislike that). The students that I hung out with talked about actual regular high school stuff (dating, drama, etc). It was just a bit strange. At Choate, kids were talking to one another about stuff, but the kids didn’t seem like they were in high school if you know what I mean. I’m not sure whether I like or dislike this about Milton. The campus was really nice, although I never got an actual tour. I attended some classes, too. The math class that I went to was a bit disappointing. The room was a bit decrepit and the teacher never really taught. All of the kids did a worksheet. In English, the kids sat around a Harkness table and we listened to one kid give a speech about overfishing. Then we spent the rest of the time reading Shakespeare together. Lunch was a bit chaotic. The entire place was packed and there was an enormous line. At the table I sat at, people were pretty quiet at first. Eventually, everyone began to talk together (including me! #social). For some of the parents out there … the food was pretty good, not great. The kids told me that it was a bit repetitive but overall OK. I had chicken and some pasta. I then went to health class which was actually super fun. The room was small and there were just couches along the wall. We split into two groups and one did a skit about alcohol, where to get help for your friends on campus if they’re drunk, etc. My group did the same thing but with marijuana. It was honestly pretty fun and everybody’s skits were really entertaining. Again: it was just more of a high school. The kids seemed a bit more like high schoolish regular kids: some were a bit awkward in a teenage way, but kind. They were talking about school drama and social stuff, who’s going to the dance with who, etc. It was a very different feel from Choate, although I really liked both places. Overall a great day (although the weather was terrible!!!)!
Sounds very different from your time at Putney!!
One takeway from our years at Choate: Choate students (girls especially) seem very sophisticated, even the freshman. Maybe you picked up a bit on that @“Nico.campbell”. I’ve never been to Milton, but I did feel a similar difference between Choate and NMH students, for example.
Dahlin @Nico.campbell ! You must’ve known that despite a busy work day I was keeping one eye on this thread just waiting for your newest update! I can say I’m relieved to know that we were not missing out on Milton’s revisit too much…I mean mediocre food? That would’ve been severely disappointing! :)) so, what’s next- MX? I can’t wait for the next installment!!!
@“Nico.campbell” Yup, definitely waiting for the MX edition … I will be experiencing my revisit through you and @lusitari …
Enjoying your revisit updates, @“Nico.campbell”! Sounds like you’re narrowing down your list already.
I predict Choate will come out as the winner, @“nico.campbell” And rightfully so! I’d pick Choate too.
Yup @panpacific, I have a feeling @“nico.campbell” won’t be joining me at MX …
@Nico.campbell I love reading your revisit updates Anybody else (student or parent)want to join in and post your revisit impressions?
I attended the Lawrenceville revisit today! It was amazing! All of the kids were super nice. The student I was paired with was very helpful. The classes I sat in on were super chill and Harkness seems amazing! The thing that I liked best was the house system! The house system seems amazing and it seems like it will make it super easy to make friends. The rooms were nice and so were the bathrooms. The chapel is gorgeous and the library is pretty cool too! The only complaint I have is about the food. The hot lunch wasn’t very good aside from like one entree. The good thing is that they have a sandwich and salad bar so I can just have a sandwich or a salad everyday! I think it’s safe to say I will be a Lawrentian Class of 2020!!!
@Toosaucy please say it isn’t so!! Food not that good?!?! I can’t take it! But congrats on finding your fit!!!
