Counties in California say they've had enough – and they aren't going to take it anymore.

In what amounts to a Boston Tea Party-style revolt against the state Capitol, they're threatening to withhold money.

Los Angeles is considering such an option. And Colusa County supervisors said they authorized payment delays for February.

"We didn't vote on it, because I don't think anybody wants to go to jail," Colusa County Supervisor Kim Vann said.

Closer to home, Sacramento County is planning to file a lawsuit this week against the state and Controller John Chiang for withholding millions of dollars – much of it for social service programs.

The funny thing about California's problems is that simply reinstating the vehicle license fee (which the governator promised/did repeal) would go a long way toward fixing the problem.

^ thats not funny at all. we are already the highest taxed state in the nation, and have(or had) the largest economy, and yet we are still down the ****ter. nothing is funny about that, its just absolutely ridiculous.

.....if we made weed legal though...now that would really solve our problems lol

That's a complicated question, Xenon. If the taxed money is spent wisely on programs that actually help the citizens of an economy, the economy will improve. If it's wasted, as it probably would be in the terrible California state government, it will do nothing but take money out of people's pockets.

I'd repeal the sales tax to increase consumption. With unemployment rates approaching 10%, a balanced budget should be the last thing on politicians' minds.

The sales tax on goods but not services is obviously antiquated and does not represent the spending patterns of today. If services were taxes (even if you consider carve outs for certain medical services) the sales tax rate could probably be lowered and CA would still be ahead in revenue. However, the big problem is that the well heeled professionals in medicine, law, accounting/finance (yes, even them) would fight it tooth and nail.

And so we sit and the budget hole grows larger every day. I wish the boys and girls in Sacramento would just grow up.
