RHP -- Chance me ( with the limited information i give you)

<p>So i am a rising junior in high school and I am interested in the RHP program that USC offers. I dont have the best grades compared to most graduates, but I do fulfill the requirements (or plan to).</p>

<p>My high school:
It is super small. THere are like 9000 applicants, but only 110 get in. We have a 100% college acceptance rate (but it has been dropping i think). The kids dont get into great schools. Lots of SUNYs, some NYU, a lot of POSSE scholars though (like 4, but thats like 4% of the graduating class), some CUNYs (my school is affliated with one). I think we had like 3 kids get into Ivies, I know one couldnt go because they were under a binding schlorship (sucks :/)
It has a silver award.
I would be specialized if it was bigger.</p>

<p>I have a 91.43% AVERAGE:
Math - 94
Global - 90
Art - 90
Writing Arts - 90
Spanish - 91
Global Lit - 93
Chemisty - 92</p>

<p>According to the scale:
4.0 -- 93% and up
3.7 -- 90% and up
3.3 -- 85% and up
....</p>

<p>I have a 3.78. I dont know what is the GPA system in my school, but I am taking college courses this summer and thats the grade system they use.</p>

<p>I dont know my SATs, i didnt do well on my PSAT, but I plan to change that. I will definately surpass the 2050. </p>

<p>EC (I think this is a strong suit of mine. this is what its gonna be by the time i apply):
-- Korean Traditional Dance/ INstruments : 4 years
-- Lorax Club : 2 years
-- Student Gov't: 2 years
-- College Courses (BUSINESS) at Baruch CUNY: 1 semester (maybe 2 if i get in again)
-- Softball Varsity: 1 year
-- Wrestling Team Manager :1 year
-- Volunteer at Thrift Shop: 20 hours
-- Volunteer at some like youth group: I plan to get 100 hours this year
-- Film Club: 2 years
-- Volunteer at the Korean Film Festival in NY: One summer
-- Tutor: I dont know, I gonna start tutoring</p>

<p>I am trying to get my writing published at Teenink, so I can say i got it published. </p>

<p>Now here is the problematic part:
I have no APs.
In Sophomore and Freshman year my school did not offer any. </p>

<p>In Junior year, they only offered: Art, Global and English.
I applied to english but I was rejected. The APs in my school are difficult to get into because I am competing with the rising juniors and rising seniors. Priority is given to the seniors because thats their last opportunity.
I wasnt insterested in any of the APs, I wanted something that is science or math related. I plan to apply in senior year.</p>

<p>To make up for the lack of APs, I decided to self study for the test.
AP statistics and AP _____ (idk yet)</p>

<p>On the bright side: All of my classes are Honors (but thats for every single student)</p>

<p>No IB diplomas are offered.</p>

<p>Ask your guidance counselor for past statistics about numbers of kids from your high school who get into USC and what their GPA and SAT scores were. If no one from your high school applied to USC, then compare with other similar medium private universities of similar type. What do you want to study at USC?</p>

<p>No one in my school went to USC (we have UCB though!). </p>

<p>but i am asking about the Resisdent Honors Program </p>

<p>Oh and I can get a pretty good reccommendation from an alumni of USC (my math teacher)</p>

<p>Did you read the RHP brochure? I think it said a specific minimum for GPA and SAT score. How are you going to tie in your interest with Marshall school of Business and your extra curriculars?</p>

<p>yup i know the min. gpa and SAT, but i know i have to be a little better than that.
i dunno how ima tie it in yet. maybe it little embellishing here and there, but also i plan to get an intership soon (my birthday makes me eligible for jobs and internships)</p>

<p>dont think u will get in to rhp....maybe usc in 2 yrs but not rhp. u need a higher gpa and sat scores and ur extra curriculars are nothin special. u have a lot of them, but no real leadership positions. dont get ur hopes up.</p>

<p>You do make the GPA requirement for USC (you have an A- average).
Sadly, there are many, many 4.0 applicants. But don't be discouraged. I've read about past applicants who got in with low GPAs.
No APs is not good though.
If I were you I would wait a year and apply to USC regularly, because it's less selective than the RHP program.</p>

<p>I do not think you have anything to lose by applying for RHP. The school will likely be looking at several factors, including how independent you are, when deciding to admit you. Since you have no AP's and want to attend college early, why not take a college class this fall? You can usually take a class through the extension program of a four year school or at a CC. If you do well there, it will certainly bolster your application by showing you can do college level work. In the worst case scenario, if you do not get in, you will have the advantage of having demonstrated a huge amount of interest in USC for a long period of time if you decide to apply later. Also, you will have already been through their application process, interviews, etc. so that might be helpful to you. Good luck.</p>

<p>Did RHP recruit you? Did you receive a letter/brochure from RHP expressing interest? I don't know if RHP provides an automatic acceptance into Marshall or into USC in general. I suggest you look into that with an admissions officer. I suggest that you sign up and attend the fall recruitment program from USC, demonstrate interest and ask your questions. Look at USC on the Road on the USC web site.</p>
