RIAA Demands $ from College Students

Seems like the music piracy issue at college campuses has come up again:

http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/devlin/8441/riaa-demands-payments-from-college-students

I guess students still aren't getting the message that these are illegal in most cases (except at Napster as noted in the article).

The RIAA is moronic. College students don't have money for ****, yet they still expect them to pay up? Laughable.

This is basically extortion; I wonder how much evidence they have if a student tried to fight it?

"We'll get your evidence... after we waste two years of your life in court!"

Ridiculous.

I scoff at the RIAA.

The RIAA needs to get its head out of its rear end, to put it nicely.

Also, students need to stop being careless enough to get caught.

They really need to accept the fact that music distribution is just simply not the same as it was 10 years ago and it's never going to be again. There are probably tons of things that they could do that would encourage people to download music legally, but noooo, they decide to **** everyone off by suing as many people as possible.

There are supposedly 28 students at my school that got these letters from the RIAA.

My university uses www.ruckus.com to prevent illegal file sharing, however, it hasn't deterred us from file sharing.

Most people here use Limewire

No, most people use DC++ bc it's infinitely better using campus networks.

yea DC++ is the way......so far only 85 people have been caught on campus and they call it an Academic Dishonesty in the Academic Judiciary......-- I swear university just love to exaggerate things and anything goes wrong? Academic Judiciary will do.....--

Ruckus is amazing! And your college doesn't have to subscribe- anyone with a .edu e-mail can join. It's just the TV shows and movies that require college membership. The only thing is, you can't put the songs onto your iPod and the software isn't compatible with Macs.

Just went on "Ruckus". The site is garbage. I'll stick with newsbin, thank you very much.

Completely off topic, but about the RIAA, they're actually sueing a "Paralyzed Stroke Victim in Michigan"

http://recordingindustryvspeople.blogspot.com/2007/03/riaa-sues-stroke-victim-in-michigan.html

Good stuff

They should die.

Do all check out recordingindustryvsthepeople. VERY interesting important info.

Seriously, just don't use any file sharing programs, use http dls, it's a pain in the ass to do, but practically 0 risk.

Oh, and yes, after mosquitoes, the RIAA is the second thing I'd like to completely wipe off the face of the earth.

I hate the RIAA, extorting poor college students

I wish the RIAA would DIAF.

Seriously.

9 kids from my college got those letters about two or three months ago.

If you don't know how to take the necessary precautions, then too bad.
