This is a new thread for comments and discussion about the 2023 waitlist
what is the deadline for notice of getting off the waitlist
It can go all the way to late June
Guys where do you submit your continued letter of interest? or something similar in that sense?
I’m going to email them
According to the Rice waitlist FAQs, “You should update your file in writing to inform us of your continued interest in Rice as well as any notable awards or achievements since your original application. Additions to the file should be directly from the student. Please do not send additional letters of recommendation from school officials, Rice alumni or others. Send any updates via your Rice Admission Student Portal (preferred) or email to riceapps@rice.edu.”
How worth it is it to go on the waitlist? From my understanding we are supposed to commit to a college by May 1st so how complicated is the process when you get off the waitlist and still want to go to Rice?
asking for a friend
Your friend should definitely send a deposit to a college he/she is happy to attend by May 1 and plan to go there. If your friend gets off the Rice wait list, that is a bonus. If your friend decides to go to Rice, he/she might lose the deposit at the first school. Most schools do not require all tuition to be paid until the end of the summer. Rice should have worked through its wait list before then.
In some years, 0 students are taken from the waitlist so please listen to @Houston1021.
Ok thank you! That sounds a lot more simple than what I expected, I’ll let them know (They aren’t getting their hopes up but if the possibility is there…)
One of my daughter’s good friends stayed on the Rice wait list last year but didn’t get his hopes up about getting in. That way he was not tremendously let down when Rice did not pull him off the wait list. He enrolled at WUSTL and is very happy there.
Is it worth visiting Rice after you are waitlisted?
If you’re close by it couldn’t hurt. But personally I wouldn’t make a long trip and spend a lot of money. My daughter is waitlisted at a couple of places and she’s expressed her continued interest but she is moving on with her other options for now. You can’t count on getting off the list so you need to work with what you have!
Thanks. We are going to most likely accept in Purdue. My daughter is waitlisted in UIUC and UMich also. Rice being her top choice, was wondering if it helps somehow the chances to get off the waitlist when they are ready to make a decision. I just don’t like this waitlist process, either accept of deny so life moves on rather keeping hopes for another 2 months.
Anyone gotten off waiting list yet? I think April 23rd/24th people had gotten calls last year.
Also anybody have an idea of if there will be spots this year?
I believe this year they’re waiting until May 1st to start the wait-list process
Ok thank you!
Does anyone have information about the Rice/Baylor program waitlist? Has anyone got in from the waitlist?
@MrMonk Just curious – how did you find out Rice was waiting to release waitlists until after May 1st?
From the Rice Website:
What is the waitlist?
Your application received enough support from the Admission Committee to be approved for admission. However, Rice’s small size prevents us from admitting all such students. As an alternate to the class you are given the opportunity to accept a place on the waitlist. Students on the waitlist are considered for positions in the class if any remain unfilled after May 1, 2019.
