has anyone heard of rice accepting someone off the waitlist yet?

Did anyone on the waitlist get a letter with their financial awards?

nope. i hope i do though, even though it's not going to happen. lol
and on the waitlist FAQ, they said that people on the waitlist aren't considered for financial awards.

You are guaranteed full need-based financial aid - merit scholarships are not available.

however, if you are a national merit finalist, and get off the waitlist before May 21, you still have time to designate Rice and get the amount Rice gives all national merit finalists. ( I think it is 1,000 dollars.)

oops, I meant May 31.

Just FYI: I just heard Rice's director of admissions on an NPR show (called On Point); he said no one is being taken off the waitlist this year.

So sorry.

I like Keith Todd; he's a good guy.

Oh I've met him, he's a pretty nice guy and seems to be good at what he does.

Yes, he said that it looks like Rice may actually be over-enrolled this year, and although they did not admit more kids, the yield looks to be higher. That doesn't mean that they won't admit one or two off the waitlist near the end, if there is a lot of summer melt - but it doesn't look likely... :( Sorry.

i thought Rice's director of admissions was julie browning? i've never heard of keith todd...

I think Julie Browning is with financial aid... not sure though, too lazy to google her name right now.

Keith Todd is the director of admission while Julie Browning is the dean for undergraduate enrollment.

It was Chris Munoz on that radio program. It's interesting that Rice ended up with more students than it expected and some of the Ivies ended up with a lot less. I wouldn't assume that there's no hope of getting in off of the waiting list yet, in spite of what Chris Munoz said. I think at the time of that radio program, Harvard and several other schools hadn't reported yet how many students they were going to admit from their waiting lists. I think I read that Harvard is taking 175 this year! Some other Ivies had similar numbers, and that's bound to cause a few students at other schools to jump ship.

Ah. Chris Munoz is the Dean of Enrollment, if I'm not mistaken.

But Harvard, Princeton, and a few other schools decided to drop early decision this year; they were probably banking on the waitlist as a safety net for such an unpredictable year.

Julie M. Browning, Dean for Undergraduate Enrollment---from the 2008 admit letter.

Julie Browning is Dean of UNDERGRADUATE Enrollment. Chris Munoz is her boss, the Dean of Enrollment.

so just to clarify, no one here has heard from the waitlist yet?

sure havent.... i called the admissions office and they said they would be sending an email on june 2nd to all the waitlisted people informing them of the status of the waitlist
