Rice/Baylor

So when do they tell you and how?

Tuesday, or maybe wednesday, by e-mail.

whats rice/baylor?

It's a combined 8-year BA/MD program with Rice and Baylor College of Medicine.

Will they send the email out by Tuesday/Wednesday even if you don't make it, or just to those accepted?

Hey Jenskate!

I got into the Rice/Baylor Program and Northwestern's HPME. How can I get your contact info? I really need to research these two options the next few days. My sn is Ad0rkablelin (zero not o).

I got into Rice/Baylor!

Thank you so much, Jenskate, for all your info about rice/baylor!

hmmm aznstealth7...i would pick rice/baylor, but i am a little biased. Baylor is great med school (ranked higher than northwestern), it's with rice (yay!), and it's 8 years instead of 7 years (more time to explore a double/triple major).

Good luck on your decision! Either way, both are great med schools!

I got into Rice/Baylor as well! I'm so excited!!! I'd like to thank jenskate for all her help as wel. I'm probably going to end up choosing between Rice/Baylor, HPME, and Case PPSP. What do you guys think?

darn i didnt get in... they sent me something about being an alternate. hmm... i guess they send that to everyone who doesnt get in huh? ahh...

HIP HIP HOORAY!!!!!!!

aznstealth (and others) - you can PM me any questions or IM, my sn is jenskate1.

Little John, I'm sorry to hear that. If it's any consolation, almost every doctor did not go through a combined program. And Rice is a fabulous school for pre-med regardless. I'd urge you to consider it carefully.

hey siva, what is your contact. seems like your making a similar decision as me.

Yeah, it does look like we're in the same boat! My AIM sn is asiva424, and I just added your sn to my buddy list.

Omg! im so stoked i got in!! its really surprising seein that i didn't get an interview at Northwestern, thanks jenskatE! for all your help and good luck to everyone else!

Hey Jenskate and all,

I am alternate. Has there ever been any alternates that have been admitted. I send the form back immediately and hoping for the best. But should I send my deposit to MIT before knwoing as to not miss the deadline?

Thanks.

If you would only come to Rice if admitted to Rice/Baylor, you should probably send your deposit off to MIT. Last year, none of the alternates were selected, but I don't know about years past.

Hey thanks Jenskate.

One more question: If you know, how many alternates are there? I mean is everyone who is not admitted automatically become an alternate for the rice/baylor?

Thanx.

That's my understanding, based on what Dr. Michael said at interviews.

Jenskate,

Other than guaranteed admission into Baylor, what do Rice/Baylor participants do? I heard Dr. Michael talk about extra reports or something.

enh - those are no big deal. You have to go to a lecture in the med center once/semester and write up a summary of what the lecture was about (1 page, double spaced). Don't worry about that.

Perks of Rice/Baylor, beyond the no MCAT, guaranteed acceptance:

Dinner at President Leebron's home in the fall and at BCM in the spring.
Dr. Michael will write you recommendation letters for summer programs.
It's a nice way to get your foot in the door for research positions, shadowing, etc. BCM might also help you set this up if you ask, though it's not hard to do on your own.

That's about it.
