According to Alexandre on the Michigan board, Rice is on par with schools like Vanderbilt, Emory, and Georgetown. I find that to be quite wrong and I don't understand how this moderator can say that Michigan and Cal Berkley are superior to Rice. Is it me or is he crazzzzy??

ALEXANDRE:
Dog, I would not rank those schools, but I would group them:

If I'm not mistaken, he attended Michigan. Obviously there is some bias there, and I dont blame it a bit. I'd personally rank Rice higher than many of those schools, but, again, it's subjective. I will hardly call ranking a college relatively low "bashing" a college though.

hmm ... while you may not agree with Alexander's grouping I do not know if I would call his groupings bashing ... there are thousands of colleges and universities and Rice is in the group ranked #14-#18 among the universities ... basically the upper 1% of universities ... to me that is pretty fair company!

Yeah i wouldnt say "bashing", but I do think that Rice definitely should be higher in the groupings. I think Rice is at least on the same level as Duke etc. But my opinion may be biased.

But how can you say that Michigan is a better school than Rice and I got into U of Mich Honors, I just don't understand why that is possible. I see my peers getting into Michigan with extremely low stats and I know that a lot of kids get in there with very average stats. I know that there are a ton of extremely bright kids at michigan, but still it seems weird to say Michigan is better than Rice.

Why are not asking him how he constructed such a table? Upon what calculus did he derive such a grouping system? Was it entirely arbitrary? I think so. At any rate, I would think that the USNews ranking's calculus for determing how good a school is, is better than an analysis from some random, partial, individual on an internet message board.

dog87, I'm assuming you're asking people the Michigan vs. Rice question on the boards since you got accepted to both in order to make a decision for yourself. Obviously if you ask someone on the Michigan board, he's going to give you his Michigan-leaning opinion. I don't think he's crazy. You asked for his ideas, and he gave them to you.

For someone who's trying to help you by giving his two cents' worth, there's no need to doubt his mental abilities. :p

personally, i disagree with rice being down there. but what i disagree with even more is the fact that he mentioned every sing ivy EXCEPT for Dartmouth. whats wrong with the BIG GREEN?

SORRY I FEEL AS THIS IS MY FAULT I HAD BROUGHT IT UP IF U LOOKED AT THAT POST, the reason dartmouth was not mentioned by Alexandr is because I had recalled an earlier post and that poster was prob just not interested in the school. He was just listing schools that he was wonderfing how thye can be grouped and i was the one that brought up vanderbilt, emory, georgetown to ask how they would relate. don't blame alexandre, blame me.
