Rice Class of 2018 (HS Class of 2014) ED/RD Thread

Thanks for the advice

This past Fall, Rice had 322 ED admits but only 297 enrolled. I suspect that most of the 25 people who elected not to come were for financial reasons.

Applying ED or RD? RD (changed her mind)
You are from? New Jersey
Major: Architecture

how is everyone’s essays going? :)

FLstudent2014 kind of a late response, but my SAT is around a 1860, (710 math, 6-something writing, 580 or something reading) taking again in 2 weeks, ACT is currently at 29, just took them again last weekend so I’ll know if they changed in a couple weeks. My GPA’s around a 4.6/3.9, 2nd in my graduating class of 150. I’m from a small town in the middle of nowhere, sort of mid-high income…
Does location change anything? Is applying ED going to help me at all? Can I account for the testing scores with essays and GPA?

Hi!
Im from Long Island. I go to a large public school, my GPA is 3.6 uw around 4.0 W and Im taking almost all the AP courses available. I have a 2060 SAT (600 Math <–weakest subject, 750 Reading, 710 Writting)
I am really exited about the Neuroscience major and the Russian language classes ( I am fluent)
I am trying to get into the Rice/Baylor program but its a very very long shot, but my essays are really good and my recommendations are great.
Is anybody on here applying to Rice/Baylor?
I love Rice and it’s my #1 but I cant apply ED for financial reasons :(

Hi!
Okay, so I replied a while back, when I wasn’t too sure about what schools I was applying to. Basically, now I’m definitely applying here!

I’m from California, and plan to apply RD. I don’t have the GPA stats I want; my SAT is in range, though.

I’m really confused about what major I want now… The Cog Sci major seems too psych-based, and I thought neuroscience was just a minor for now? Or is it new this year? Anyways, so now I’m debating between Cell/Molecular Bio and Statistics.

Yeah I meant a neuro minor. I was also concerned about the minor being too psych-based but apparently you can take it from the biology side

Did anyone here get an Esther account to see if your application is complete? If so, how did you get an Esther account? Thanks! :)

Hey!
I’m super duper excited to apply ED!
I think I will major in Biochemistry and Cell Biology.
oh and i’m from Mississippi

Hello!
I am applying early to Rice University, I am from Houston, Texas, and I am planning on majoring in Bioengineering. Nevertheless, I feel that my standardized test scores are not up to par with those of Rice, and, to be honest, I am panicking right now because I really, really want to get into Rice.

Anyway, good luck to everyone else applying to Rice! :)

I’d feel glad if anyone chances me possibility of getting into Rice ED as CHBE and plus, getting scholarship

I plan to apply Rice as out-of-state(international). GPA 4.92, SAT 2380(CR 800 M 800 writing 780), SAT2 Math 800, chemi 760. Six APs related to math and science.
I have no special Extracurriculars (that’s what my counselor says…); I won bio-debate competition and science essay contest (both nationwide), wrote two research papers about my major, was my country representative at Asian Science Camp, … pretty focused on Academics, and a club leadership role, choir, and nothing else. I did nothing colorful or unique. How much chance is there for me to get accpeted ED and plus, earn scholarship?

Yo! Just decided to apply ED to Rice! Best of luck to all. Go Owls

@queenant

Well, your SAT score is amazing! And I think you got some leadership skills, so you may have a really good chance! :)

As for me, I’ll have to sort of rely on the interview and my ACT (which is only a 31 :/).

I am super crazy excited about RICE! I have wanted to apply since I was a sophomore. I am applying under ED and want to major in psych. I’m from South Texas! (:

I just applied ED. Pretty standard stats for a Rice applicant: 34 ACT, 2200 SAT, 800 sat math 2 and 740 Bio M. Good grades, plethora of EC’s. Couple national/state awards.
I think at this point we all need to remember that it’s all a matter of luck. It used to be only that way with the Ivies but now Rice (IMO) has fallen into that category.
I predict the acc rate to fall to 16/15 percent. Fantastic!

Even though the ED deadline has been moved to the 8th, do the people that have already applied get an Esther account on Nov 1st? If anyone has any info that’d be awesome!

Wait, never mind! This site says that they give Esther accounts on Nov 1st

Nice!

Has anybody gotten their Esther account information?

I submitted my application on Sunday night and have not received any email from Rice regarding account info.

Just curious about the Esther account… anyone???
