are the decisions known to come out 4 pm eastern time or central time?
Last year they came out on Thursday, 12/14/17 at 4:00 p.m. according to posts on my version of College Confidential. However, I live in Houston which is on Central Time. Maybe @Faulkner1897 can speak to whether it was 4 or 5 Eastern.
So we should expect the decision by friday around 4/5?
It was 5 pm Eastern last year! We were expecting the decision on Friday 12/15 (based on previous years patterns), and were taken by surprise when they came out on Thursday 12/14.
For this year’s applicants, I would expect Friday, but check your portal on Thursday evening just in case!
How long does it take for one to get a letter of acceptance from Rice after finding out they are admitted online?
@rickychen112 I want to say we had the official packet by the following Tuesday (TX).
are we expecting a lot of people to get deferred to RD?
I think Rice rejects applicants outright.
Ugghhhh the pressure is growing fast.
I think I’d like to be denied instead of deferred because at least I’ll be able to move on and look at an ED2
you can look at an ED2 regardless of deny vs. defer. If they defer you the ED contract is no longer in effect.
Yeah but I don’t wanna ditch Rice i would probly end up not ED2-ing so that I can still maybe go to Rice
It will be 4 pm central time, not Eastern.
Anyone else contemplating waiting for the letter? I’d rather be rejected in a nicer way than seeing it online?.
I wonder if the overall acceptance rate will decline. I think the number of early applicants will be much higher due to the Rice Investment… maybe they’ll stay true to their trend of 18-21% accepted???
Confirmed December 14, 2018 starting at 4 Central.
Say it with me, guys:
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH
Here is an article on the class of 2022 ED at Rice: http://news.rice.edu/2017/12/18/rice-admits-first-students-of-class-of-2022-through-early-decision-program/
371 were admitted, 1916 applicants. So the acceptance rate was a little over 19%.
I think that the Class of 2022 ended up being ~965 students. Typically Rice takes 1/3 of its class from ED, so 371 was higher than usual, but Rice also accepted more Questbridge scholars than usual (51 matched to Rice in December of 2017), and these students were included in the 371 accepted ED.
Yayy! I’m glad we have an exact date and time. Is it official though? @awesomepolyglot
never mind I got an email @awesomepolyglot
I got the email alert and only saw the first two title words (application notification) so my heart stopped for a bit there! Assuming that everyone here is in the nervously-wait-and-pray boat until Friday…best of luck!
Apparently Brown’s email had the subject “Important Information about your Admissions Decision” or something like that. Terrifying!
