For the diversity essay (What will you contribute to the Rice community?), did you (and I'm speaking to past, successful applicants) address the prompt directly, or simply write about your passions?

I have a rough idea about what to write, but I'm not sure if it entirely answers the prompt. If anybody is willing to confirm my ideas with me over PM, please let me know!

Honestly for me, this was one of the harder essay topics to write about. With that being said, it’s not too bad as long as you keep it simple. You address this prompt BY talking about your passions. Just write about what makes you, you, and it’ll be great. Good luck!!

Does the prompt mean that you should write about stuff that makes you fundamentally unique (like your philosophy, personality, etc.) or stuff that is more achievement oriented (like how you love to speak arabic)?

My D wrote about who she is and what made her who she is and concluded how she will add to Rice community with her personality. Hope this may help you

Sell yourself well, but make sure it is a good essay. You and your achievements are very closely intertwined. As a result, what you do is also about you, and who you are represents what you do.
