Im an Asian student admitted to Stern and Rice as econ major.

I'm so at a loss for Rice and Stern

people say that Rice econ isn't worth at all and 'weak' to be recruited than Stern business students.

Would it really matter to be in a 'BUSINESS SCHOOL' to get a job than being a more (in my opinion) prestigious and selective school without a business department?

I think Stern gives you a much better opportunity to get into jobs like investment banking (especially in the NYC offices). However, competition for those jobs is a lot tougher up there as well. Almost everyone I know at Rice who wanted a those types of finance jobs got them. Most of the bulge brackets recruit here, although you’ll likely end up in the Houston office.

I think Rice is better if you figure out that you’re really passionate about something else, while Stern may be better if you’re certain you want to do something business related. Just a word of warning though: most people who work in finance didn’t get a BBA; they are mainly STEM majors. This is speculative, but I believe that in the near future, majoring in business will actually be less valuable than knowing math/science, especially for things like trading and consulting.

To give a better answer, I need more info. What do you mean by “business?” That’s a pretty broad term. Also, is cost a factor? Is there anywhere you want to live after college? Stuff like that.

I have heard the same thing. Many family members/family friends who are senior management feel that a BBA is not very useful. By getting a Bachelors degree in a field and then an MBA, it gives you skills which can then be amplified and applied through your business degree.

I would advise a UG degree from Rice. If you still desire a business degree, get an MBA
