I have started filling out my Rice ED app and I'd like some opinions. I am a Texas senior in the top 6% of my class (31 out of 617). I got a 32(34m/e, 32cr,27sc) act and 2180 (760m,670r,750w) sat. I am awaiting NM notification but probably got commended. I was in NHS for 2 years, young republicans for 2(though I don't identify with the movement any more). I competed in academic competition in current issues last year and will compete in science this year. I have 30 hours or so of community service mostly helping plant at the school. I played subvarsity basketball for 2 years before quitting to get a job. I worked at a grocery store for a year. I was involved in debate for a year. I am a teacher's aide for my physics teacher. I am taking the most rigorous schedule possible 5 aps and a dual credit class. I have taken hard classes in all my previous years too. My essay about why I'm different is about how I've tried to be someone I'm not my whole life just to fit in until recently and now I am happy for the first time. i talk about how my friends and I get into heated discussions about politics and morality at the local cici's and how I cherish that and have learned not to care what others think of me. All this being said, do I have a good chance of getting into Rice ED?

You sound like you have lots to write about and could add another interesting voice to campus. Are you sure that ED is your wisest route?
No doubt that Rice is a terrific place, but do you really want to set aside other possible
opportunities at this stage? Good luck to you!

Well I will DEFINITELY want to go to Rice unless the money doesn’t work out… but I think it should… Its no doubt the best school I am applying to and I love the atmosphere

You will certainly get in! I have no doubt in my mind! Good luck!

There is no certainty in admissions to top schools like Rice. That said, your stats are within range and your essay seems like it could go in an interesting direction. You definitely have a shot.

For everyone looking at chance threads in the future, I was one of about 100 who were deferred in ED. While I would have liked to have been accepted only 24% were accepted and about 10% were deferred. The rest were denied.

Our chances are still pretty good though wavylays. I was one of those 127 deferred.

If Rice ED deferred, will you still have a chance to be accepted as RA?

yes deferred students are thrown into the rd pool
