Ok, so I've been accepted to Rice, Emory, and The University of Texas Plan II Honors Program. I'm having soo much trouble deciding which one I should attend!! I am planning on doing pre-med so I was wondering if anyone can give me any advice on which school would give me the best pre-med education and overall college experience.

The reason why Rice is actually the best school to go to as a pre-med is the Texas Medical Center (13 hospitals, 2 med schools, schools of pharmacy, nursing and public health, etc.) There are SO many opportunities to get involved in the med center.

Plus, we do of course have the small classes, the excellent student-faculty interaction, and generally awesome people.

ditch emory. If $ is not an issue Rice, but UT plan II is extremely powerful too. Small classes and very intellectual student body - Like a small LAC at a very cheap price.

I wouldn't quite say "ditch" Emory. It is a very good school and has a very good medical school.Emory has also developed a biotechnology program with Ga Tech, if that interests you at all. My s. did research in a pathology lab at Emory Medical school the summer before his senior year, and had a wonderful experience. However, he isn't pre-med, and didn't apply to Emory.
The UT honors program has a great reputation, and while it is small (by comparison to the rest of the school), UT is H-U-G-E, so keep that in mind when you think about want you want in a college experience.

I assume you have visited all of them? Imagine yourself at each place... look hard at the required curriculum....picture yourself hanging out, attending parties.. Are you hopping on the shuttle bus in Austin with 60 other people to go back to your apartment on Riverside drive? Bicycling to your college or off-campus duplex at Rice? They are all fine schools, but Rice and PlanII have an edge academically. Rice will give you lots of support, close close close ties with professors and college masters, many research opportunities and lots of wacky fun. The Houston Rice area is really a great location with the light rail, zoo, museums, ethnic restaurants, etc. But you need to close your eyes and think about where you want to be!

I might be wrong, but I think Plan II students reside in honors-dormitories.

is premed any good at ut (w/ plan II) anyways? im contemplating between that and rice (when i apply and IF i make it into rice). and whats rice's rate if you're not in the rice/baylor prog?

9 of the 15 med school people got into what are top schools, and the others didn't do too shabby. So I think its safe to say that their premed program is decently respected.

Yes, Plan II people can live in honors dorms (along with business honors, engineering honors, etc) but Plan II people are still at a large university.

Plan II is great, but UT itself is very large. To my knowledge, while Plan II does guarantee that you'll be in small classes, not all of your classes will be small- introductory classes can go up to 200+ people.

Do you crave big classes or small classes? A lot of my friends are going to UT Plan II next year, and it's a great program b/c it's wonderfully affordable and it's like being at a small college at a large university. But you're still get that sense of being at a very large, populated university, not that small-college atmosphere that you get from being at Rice.

I heard that Rice has over a 92% rate of getting into med school. A lot of people go to Baylor Med School from Rice.
