Rice here I come!

Goal (my definition) : a long-term (more than a year) commitment which is (at the time of making) fully willed by the person to complete it.

Okay ... to get this back on topic ...

My son had a great time at Owl Weekend. His only concern about going to Rice over some of his other choices (Cornell, Hopkins, CMU, etc.) was that it wouldn't give him the same opportunity to experience a new environment having grown up in Houston. But he saw that being at Rice was really different than being at home (even though he was only a few miles away), and he otherwise thought Rice was a great fit for him. (And the scholarships he got don't hurt either.) ;-)

He hasn't quite brought himself to make a final decision yet, but he's really, really close to choosing Rice.

Thanks to all the Owl Weekend hosts!!! You did a great job.

Well, my son made his final decision last night. He's headed to Rice!!!

Yeahh! And since your son lives in Houston, maybe you'll get the chance to be the "short vacation" surrogate home of some lovely, interesting and otherwise-homeless Rice international student. ;)

Yes ... I'm looking forward to that role!

Some people, such as myself, have a long-term goal of living in the wilderness away from society. That doesn't mean we can't go to college on the way and have 4 years of mind-broadening experiences.

Oh, and your definition is a horrible one. What about short-term goals? My goal for the next ten minutes is to eat a pizza and thus stop my stomach from growling. Voila. Am I now qualified to go to college?

Goal (my definition) : a long-term (more than a year) commitment which is (at the time of making) fully willed by the person to complete it.

Does that clarify anything for you?

Yes. It clarifies that it is wrong. A goal can be long-term or short-term. Your definition is incorrect, hence my post. Thank you for clarifying nothing.

okay, young ones - time to move back to the OP. Rice, here they come! (Afruff23 - in fall of 2008, should you apply and get accepted and choose to attend.)

Anyone from El Paso planning to attend Rice in the Fall of 2007
