Rice in the Summer...

Thinking about signing up for Rice Summer School. Anyone have any info about the summer semester? Is Rice pretty much a dead campus during the summer or are there still things going on? Thanks.

I've never actually stayed here for the summer, but the impression that I get (and based on the number of people I know who stick around) campus is definitely pretty quiet during the summer. There are still some people around, but the general campus liveliness is missing.

bump..anyone else know about the summer?

it's dead.

Yeah, it's nearly empty. I only saw grad students and some high school teachers at workshops

I spent a summer on campus at Rice in a research program, and it was pretty empty. The swing dance club is active in the summer, though, and I'm sure a few other organizations are. There are a bunch of high school summer school classes, but that's not enough to make campus lively.

i visited during the summer and it was dead.....really dead, and hot

Rice is really dead during the summer; the only people who are on campus are the college coordinators, some of the athletes, high school students in workshops, and graduate students.

The summer heat in Houston is oppressive, that takes away the fun in doing many things, imho....

yeah it's dead in the summer, except for grad students in research labs.

ppl told me it's dead.

i've been here every single summer since freshman year (and now i'm a senior) and everyone's right. it's dead. rice ppl who are around for the summer will get to run into each other usually at the RMC over lunch breaks and whatnot, but overall, i agree with thelonius on the campus liveliness being missing.

Well, I'm going to be here for the summer, so that's something that makes it good!

Right?
